Shadow of the Day is the third single to come out of Minutes to Midnight. The track has received relatively huge success worldwide, placing in the top twenty in fifteen countries. It placed #2 on the US Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks & #15 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It only reached #46 on the UK Singles Chart.

The video which was directed by Joe Hahn takes place during a huge riot scene that is occurring in the streets, and only features band member Chester Bennington. Due to censorship, there are three different cuts of the video, some editing whole scenes from the video, which could drastically change the perception of the narrative.
