LMFAO.... A blinding mix of interesting piano playing, crazy moves and rather Cedric-like vocals hehe... But actually you're not bad at piano do you take lesson play classically? That death metal vocals impression was also quite unique...I would attend you're live shows if I were in the area Edit: This inspires me to record some piano/vocal stuff. If I ever have the time I should post a piano/vocals version of "A Song to Sing When I'm Lonely" by John Frusciante although my voice isn't that great.
Nice performance, Branden! Quality's way better than on Youtube. You're great at piano, but I guess people have told you that before. Cool moves too. Maybe you should try doing a handstand on to your piano next time, that would be kick ass. (people really do that, you know)
Thank you everyone, and no Odaton, I'm pretty much self-taught besides my dad teaching me a blues lick here and there and guitar tabs. I'll try the handstand next time, and the metal vocals would've been better but its very hard for me to scream while playing that riff, for some reason. If you notice in the video, I was trying to persuade my friend to either play it for me or scream, right before the breakdown. A new project came up today, a friend of mine and I had to do songs for this news announcement thing at our school. So we recorded Friday and tonight, and got 6 songs finished. I'll upload some of them tonight for you guys to hear.
Noice. What do you use for recording? I really want to record but have never tried. I have a keyboard as well, how do you plug yours into the computer (I assume you do it through a computer program)? A MIDI or straight 1/8' cable?
I run the keyboard through MIDI to Garageband. We did vocals using a Shure SM57 into a guitar cable which was connected to a resizer jack thing to make it fit the line input, he was using an electronic drumkit which was nice so we didn't have to mic the drums. He had some kind of thing that fit on the bridge of the acoustic guitar, and we just did guitars with the same setup as the vocals. Then we mixed it all in Garageband. Myspace is being a jerk to me, so I'll upload them tomorrow.
Yeah i just got a recording program but like most my computer doesn't take a 1/8" jack so I need to get a resizer. I'm very excited though to record stuff. I just got Cool Edit pro, illegally lol...is there a better/easier program out there for that stuff thats of reasonable size? Please let me know about this as I'm just starting to get into the world of digital recording.
What kind of keyboard are you using? It looks like a Yamaha DGX-305, which is what I have, but the speakers look different..
Its a DGX-205 by Yamaha. and Odaton, I used Sonar by Cakewalk when I was on PC. i talked to the recording guy at guitar center about protools, and he says Reason is kind of the standard as far as software goes. i guess its the most universal of all the software. so i think i may try and download it for mac and start learning that, and save up for a protools box.
Hey, is this a good band name... World on Stilts? This is how the name came to be. When you try stilts at like a fair or whatever they give you tiny ones so theres not much risk of getting hurt if you fall. However when you get better, you get bigger stilts, and so the risk of injury or death increases a lot. So, point being, the world has built itself up, and now at the height of the worlds power, we have a huge risk of falling. Its very System of a Down-esque
I have some new news on my band, if anyone is intrested. =P We should be recording very soon, so are EP, It's A Long Story, Even Though It's Kind Of Short, should be out (we're hoping) sometime in late September or early October. And here is the tracklisting: 01 Staircases And Broken Escalators 02 Torn Up Letters Can't Be Perfect Again 03 I Wish Gravity Didn't Apply To You 04 You Know The Old Saying: Once A Martyr, Always A Martyr 05 You're Ninety Percent Off And I Have A Coupon 06 Salt And Ice Are Not A Good Combination 07 To Lisa, Delivered From A Balcony Also, are ex-bassist has moved to the lead guitarist, so we are in search of a new bassist, at least for now. We are trying one guy out Tuesday, and from what I've heard, he's really good, so we shouldn't be in search for much longer. Right now it seems that not this weekend, but next weekend we will be playing a show, so I'm hoping to have someone record it and I'll be able to post it up somewhere, so you guys can check it out. And for my last bit of "news," we have a clip of one of our new songs up on MySpace, like the rest, the quality isn't great, but it's better then nothing... but yeah go check it out, and tell me what you think. http://www.myspace.com/evenstarsbreak
Here are photographs of my bedroom/mini studio, with it's latest addition - two MXL condensor mics and an M-Audio preamp. i'm excited to use them. i'll probably make a myspace for the music my friend and i did for that news program tonight, which includes my first venture into latin music (with a complete ripoff riff from TMV), my second and probably last dive into xhardxcorex, and a recorded version of a variation of my techno jam, and some other shitty song probably. because you can have four.
Sounds great Branden, bring it on! Btw, I'm touching up my other song and will probably compose/record another tonight. I'll post my other songs here fo' sho'.
Oh NO! Double post! Well too bad! I have come to post my new song composed/recorded/mixed by yours truly tonight for hopefully some sort of album. The theme is "explorations" of whatever sort. I hope to delve into a number of different genres but I think that for the sake of having good sound quality, with the equipment I have this will probably be a keyboard only project. With a drum machine and left hand doing the bass on this track it turned out great. Its a Bossa Nova called "The Spirit Land" and features saxophone lead/solo and a trumpet solo (synthesized of course but they sound pretty good). Anyways, enjoy! http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C255OJFK Again, with Megaupload enter in the code in the top right and it will take you to a screen where you will wait in queue for about 30 seconds.
I think it sounds wonderful. I definitely think the layers add a great touch. I wish I had musical talent after listening to that. You didn't do the saxophone live? You did it through the keyboard? Myspace is being a jerk again tonight. So I might not get the songs up. But if not, tomorrow morning for sure.
Yeah I did it through the keyboard. Actually saxophone is my main instrument, thats what I'm going to college for next year, degree in jazz performance with my main instrument being tenor saxophone. But I had no mics to do it with and there are people sleeping in my house right now! So no way I could do that! Thanks for listening and the feedback. Thanks to you I can multi-track now! And before you say you have no talent you should upload your recordings
