    Samsung a930

My 2 year contract was up and this phone was the only Verizon phone that appealed to me. I love the look when it's closed with the blue text. It's a good phone and is built like a tank just like my previous Samsung phone. My only beef with it is that if you transfer mp3s onto it with the Verizon software or record a sound with the record function, you can't set it as a ringtone/alert. But I found a web site that allows you to upload your own custom tones and have them sent to your phone for $1.50. Better sound quality and cheaper that Verizon's tones and I can have any part of any song I like from my own library. Just because I'm obsessed, I put the Metal Gear Solid codec alert on there.

I have a RAZR, too, and I like it. I call people, and it works. I text people, and it works. Oh, boy, what a phone. And it was free, so I don't mind.

Yep, Verizon is known for locking down their phones like that to try to force you to buy ringtones from them, which is why Verizon has joined Cingular on my list of "Cell phone companies I would never become a customer of, even if they were the last remaining cell carriers in the world" ;)

Once I need to pay the bills myself, I'm leaving Verizon. My parents are paying for my coverage until I graduate college in little over a year and they also refuse to change companies. Any suggestions for my future provider?

Alltel is a great provider, depending on your location. (Just check their coverage areas, and you'll know.) They've got outstanding service, great technical support, really cool phones, and awesome apps you can download. They don't have all that extra stuff like V-cast and whatnot, but really, who needs that stuff on a phone? It's a phone for crying out loud.
