Technicality, strange time signatures, instrumental breaks etc. As far as I'm concerned anyway.

When I think Linkin Park and progressive rock I think Genesis. To me, it's almost obvious that they've had a prog. influence that probably came from them.... And did anybody forget that Monster ringtone? I'd say you guys should be thinking of sounds closer to that than "she couldn't" and "new divide", which both kinda suck (IMO)

The Monster ringtone might be a one off thing and hold no similarity to the album's sound.

Mike or Brad have said ages ago that New Divide isn't indicative of the new albums sound, so.. yeah.

@Derek, I was listening to Yes and Rush for about an hour and a half on youtube earlier. Very much liked what I heard.

I think a progressive sound would be pretty sweet to hear coming from LP. You can't really label any specific type of prog. rock, and I find that pretty awesome. ;)

It MIGHT, but it might not. I say yes though. When I heard it that's exactly what I thought they'd be aiming for with the album. More than likely it was some random crap they made not too long ago, rather than something they had for years like "Not Alone"

I really hope the vocals we get are better than Not Alone's. I liked the beat, and the instrumental was okay but...eh.

I really enjoyed Not Alone to be honest, i know that it wasnt perfect, but they did it in a week, so i think a lot of fans should give them some slack. i think its okay for an artist to come out with some bad songs every once in awhile, just as long as it doesnt happen all the time

It's one of the best, most individual songs I've heard by them. I;ve never heard a suggestion that it's bad...

Yeah, I liked "Not Alone". :) I wouldn't mind some songs like it on the new album.

I like the last few seconds of 'Not Alone'. A hint of what we'll be getting in the new album perhaps?

    Agreed.

I do comparisons a lot as well, but usually I tend to compare their work solely on other pieces that they've done within or outside of Linkin Park. The material they've taken part of or brought out themselves, whether it be a collaboration effort or a one off is where I truly see them shine (outside of their LP-norm) most of the time. This must've been the millionth time I've mentioned these tracks..

    To name a few..

    - DJ Vice ft. Mike Shinoda - Freestyle
    - Young Buck ft. Chester Bennington - Slow Ya Roll
    - Handsome Boy Modeling School ft. Mike Shinoda & Chester Bennington

Personally, the ideal direction I'd love Linkin Park to dive into is something akin to the love child of some of these tracks, alongside some tracks that would be reminescent of 'Dedicated', or 'High Voltage'.

@LPPixelation: LP still hasn't confirmed it so that site link proves nothing. Remember, sites speculate.

There's going to be a lot of fake videos going around now that LP has announced they're almost done with the album. Same applies to release dates, as well as people who claim they've heard the album when they haven't (we had a fake magazine writer join here a few days ago).

Just remember...anything that's legit/trustworthy will be posted on our front page and in our LP4 page. So if you guys wanna know if something is real, check LPA. If its not posted, its not legit/not confirmed yet by the band. :)

    A wankfest and overrated?

    Really?!

BTW Rush has some prog elements, but their not a strictly prog band especially the older stuff.

Regardless the new album sounds like it might be well worth the wait.
