He didnt confirm anything, just that LP Live found something on XFM regarding the new album and that he [Mike] lurks there.

For the sake of everyone's sanity, I hope he's not being sarcastic. Mike's been pretty vague with everything lately, leaving a lot of interpretation up to the fans. I kind of wish he'd say something a little more concrete. At the same time though, it's questionable that XFM is the only music outlet that is apparently talking about this (unless people haven't been listening to other radio stations). You'd think if security was escorting this CD around, there'd be an NDA or something in effect or more stations/music sources would be discussing what they've heard. I don't see how or why one station in one area would be the only one to report what they've heard. It doesn't seem very productive. Then again I'm not very familiar with protocol here.

Either he isn't, or he's less intelligent than I give him credit for for posting this on his blog and not making it clear at all that he's trying to be sarcastic.

It makes sense to me, at least one or two other sources have at least implied that they've heard music from the new album as well. I'm guessing that relatively soon there'll probably be more, it's just a question of how long they decide to hold the information back. It's logical that, for instance, a magazine might want to do that until they have a more substantial article ready instead of just giving it a few lines.

XFM isn't the only source to say or imply that they've heard the album. That german newspaper Bild outright said they had a visit and were played new songs. They also mention an NDA.
And before that Kerrang twittered "Linkin Park fans get ready... The new album is going to blow your mind!" which strongly implies they heard it too.

The difference though is the other sources (from what I can tell) have not been as specific about the details of what they heard. I'm not saying XFM isn't reliable, just stating an observation that I find it odd that they were so open about it. If they violated the NDA, I'm not sure why Mike would promote it because that seems to somewhat nullify the purpose of an NDA in the first place. Hyping an album and giving away details of said album are two different things. I just wish Mike would specifically state whether or not what was described is accurate or not instead of being vague, because leaving it up to interpretation is going to build some fans expectations up way too high. I guess in a way his vagueness can be seen as a nudge as to what the new album will sound like, but at the same time, he could be putting us on.

True, I'm pretty sure Mike wasn't happy when they described the first track to have rapping by him. Would've been nice to have it as a surprise since we didn't get it with MTM's first single, 'What I've Done'

See that's the issue. If you really want to be surprised...then stay away from all forums and LP sites. but obviously thats way too hard for us people. It's news or no news. Spoiling or no spoiling.

Eh, that's less of a spoiler than seeing a trailer for a movie thats about to come out. Knowing Mike will be featured vocally on this album has got me a lot more excited about it.

Seconded. I realize LP were trying to grow with MTM, but Mike's presence (not just instrumentally but vocally) was sorely missed. The album felt empty without the homemade samples/layers that usually make an LP record so great.

I'm hoping this album goes back to the old LP spirit. I don't want HT Part 3. I just want a record that challenges them.

I think Mike is definitely being sarcastic here, and by posting that he's using it as red herring to divert us from what the record is actually going to sound like.

That's not really like him to do that, and I hope that's not the case. :3

Fair enough it probably isn't the case, but to say that it's not like Mike to be sarcastic... yeah, there's something not right there.

When he knows the fans are getting worked up over this, it wouldn't be like him to jerk around with them to any greater extent. ;P

Are you kidding? I think he loves how much he's fucking with the fans. Everyday that goes by without any developments on this "message" is Mike messing with the fans. I think he knows damn well what he's doing. By highlighting this piece of news is basically Mike saying "yeah, there's 6 tracks in the finishing stages, the album is almost done, I could tell you right now if this brief review is accurate and when the album is coming out, but instead I'll just create more speculation for the people who haven't heard this yet". Mike loves the fact we hardly know anything at this point.

After they finish it, it still has to mixed and mastered (usually takes a few weeks) and then the master copies have to be sent to the CD processing plants to be pressed into CDs (which is usually when an album leaks, however LP has been AMAZING with their security there). I'd say if they finish the album in July...they'll release a single by the end of the month and hype it for two months...finishing up the mixing, mastering, and packaging and getting everything on the assembly line by late September, which is when I'd expect the album to be released.

So after they announce the album is done, expect to wait 2-3 months till it's actual release.

You know, I really hope nothing of the sampler or album leaks too long before the release date. I'd like it to be released the way they wanted it to be.

I wouldn't worry about the sampler leaking. Like Derek said, they have top notch security guarding it. Only someone who wants to loose thier job would so much as try to steal it.

I'm unsure of the timeline for MTM, but this is how it went down for Death Magnetic:
    June 14th, '08 - Album Title reveal
    July 17th - Cover Art
July 23rd - Tracklist confirmed (it had leaked a few days before)
August 1st - Video for the first single is filmed, album release date announced as September 12th.
August 10th - Mixing and Mastering completed, album is finnished.
August 21st - First single hit airwaves
September 1st - Video for single released.

The album leaked somewhere inside 10 days before the official release date of Sept. 12th.
Sorry for bringing Metallica up again, but I watched all this unfolding and Metallica's archives document it well, LP.com archives only go back to last year.

And yes, I definitely think Mike knows exactly how much he's wrecking our heads by keeping quiet/vague about things.>_< :(:)
