Hey, I thought I'd move your UFC thread to here, as we sometimes discuss MMA / UFC in here on occasion. Yeah, I watch UFC. Been following it for a while now.
I've only been getting into it for a few weeks now as my partner is a big fan of it. I discovered it through the XBOX game UFC Undeated or something like that. My favourite guy is Mike Slick (?) I know it's a Mike S. What's MMA?
Yeah, UFC Undisputed is actually a really good game. Looking forward to the new one this year. I think you mean Mike Swick, haha, and yeah, MMA stands for Mixed Martial Arts.
I spend 70% of my free-time playing UFC Undisputed 2009 and trying to master the techniques. My asian guy, Matsuka, is a Muay Thai fighter, and I've progressed him up to Lvl 2 MT, and midway to Lvl 2 on Judo. I never liked the training camps before, but this past weekend I really devoted time to it and it pays off. I've had about 5 KO's so far coming from the Muay Thai clinch knees. I'm really psyched about the 2010 edition, and the EA Sports MMA game. Fedor, Melendez, Aoki (!!!), Lawler, Jacare, Shields, Frank Shamrock, Couture, King Mo, Mayhem Miller, Mousasi... jesus christ, I'm getting a boner just thinking about it. IMO, the roster has potential to be more stacked than the 2010 Undisputed UFC game, what with them basing the roster off of Strikeforce's talent and some DREAM/Sengoku guys. Fuck Kimbo (I love Kimbo), give me all of those and I'm a happy, happy man. Just to be clear, though, that's not a rumoured list, they're confirmed on the website.
I woud do but over here it costs like 40 dollars to order on pay-per-view...unless anyone has any info on a free way of watching it?
I now root for Mike Swick and Brandon Vera (I utterly adore his egyptian tattoos!). There was a UFC thing here a few weeks ago, really wasn't heard of because UFC isn't that big here. I was happy enough that Mario Yamasaki was here reffing cos he's the only good ref in my opinion.
It was certainly "heard of". Tickets sold out the day they were released (2nd fastest selling out, behind UFC 83 in Canada), they apparently broke Iron Maiden's merchandise record... almost 18,000 fans attended. It was certainly more than just a blip on the radar. It was great to see Cro Cop winning again, but it was, honestly, only because Perosh only had two days notice to prepare. I know UFC is real and whatnot, but it's so obvious that they're grooming Velasquez to be their next champion, and the first ever Mexican-American heavyweight champion, even though he's not even that well known in Mexico. That said, he's an excellent fighter and he's only getting better. When/If he faces Lesnar, if Brock doesn't finish it in the first round, Velasquez all but has that title around his waist. He's just that good, his stamina is amazing. Big Nog VS Brock would be an instant buy from me, though. Oh well. Maybe we'll get to see Cro Cop/Nog II hopefully. More fighters should enter to Bob Dylan. Good for you, Bonnar.
The only channel here that aired the event was a digital channel on free-to-air tele that half of Australia probably don't have that's how unpopular UFC is in Australia, it wasn't even aired on the standard channels. I only know about it because of my partner who is into MMA and UFC and practices BJJ and Judo for a living (outside his normal work).
How unpopular do you think UFC is in, say, Abu Dhabi? Because that's where UFC 112 is going to be at. You have to run shows in the countries first to get more television exposure. It's obvious they're popular because of the attendance, amount made (2.5 million Australian), and how quick it sold out.
March is stacked with MMA events: WEC 47 UFC on Versus Sengoku Twelfth Battle DREAM 13 UFC 111 UFC Fight Night 21 (Gomi vs. Florian -- holy fuck)
I probably take it everyone has seen the videos of the fights on UFC Undisputed right? Does anyone think the Australia tournament might show on the next game?
I don't know what Sarah is talking about. Anyways, UFC LIVE: Vera VS. Jones was Sunday night, and man, did Bones Jones fuck Vera up or what? Vera's orbital bone is apparently broken in 3 places, according to the Wrestling Observer (awesome site, by the way). He's not next in line for a title shot, so sayeth Dana White, but he's a contender now, definately. Two more impressive victories like that, and I think by the end of the year/early next year, he'll be close to the top of the heap at 205. John "Doomsday" Howard had the most impressive victory that night, in my opinion, with his falling hammerfist to Daniel Robert's face (on Wikipedia, his KO is listed as "Knocked the Fuck Out"). If you didn't see it, try and find it on the internet. It's glorious. And then there's Junior dos Santos and his rise to a contender, as well, in the Heavyweight division. I expect it to go like this: Mir subs Carwin Lesnar TKO's Mir Santos KO's Carwin Velsaquez TKO's Lesnar Santos KO's Velsaquez Somewhere in between all of that, I'm sure dos Santos will have a match with a bigger name, defeat them, then be the true #1 contender after Lesnar loses to Cain. I don't want to see Lesnar lose, but he will. Cain is scary good on his feet and is quicker and crisper than Brock, but Lesnar has the KO power in his hands and is no slouch when it comes to his ground game. Interesting year ahead of us in the UFC. DREAM, on the other hand... not so much. I heard 13 was quite the lackluster show, with Noons putting on an awful performance, Mighty Mo just giving his arm to Barnett, and Hansen stinking it up in the main event. What's funny about the Barnett situation is that they're setting him up to face Fedor on New Years Eve this year, but he'll have to go through Alistair Overeem first, which I just don't see happening. Overeem/Fedor, Strikeforce VS. DREAM, New Years Eve in Japan.. that will blow the gates wide open in Japan, and made some serious cash. Barnett is just a roided up hack now. Overeem, is also roided up, but the difference is, Overeem is still consistently impressive. You might notice I haven't mentioned Overeem's first US fight in 3 years at Strikeforce in May against Brett Rogers.. that's because it's not even a title fight (Overeem is Strikeforce Heavyweight champ), and Rogers has no chance in hell. It's kinda like how Werdum thinks he can defeat Fedor.. y'know, a fantasy.
UFC 113 in a couple of days. Excited to see Shogun vs Machida again also really looking forward to what Kimbo has to offer.
Used to be a huge fan of both. stop watching mma in 2005, and now in 2010, I'm doen with wrestling. Not feeling any of the characters, none of the fighting styles. Still a fan of Old AJ, Evan Bourne; and see a lot of potential in Kofi. But there's too much nonsense to sit through. Getting rid of Michael Tarver irst on NXt was lame. Where the hell is low ki at? Layla/McCool/Vickie is the best thing out, but like I said, I aint sitting through 2 hours for them. Guess i just lost 2 interests/hobbies. RIP Kanyon.
Daley is banned from the UFC, Kimbo got fired, Rua is the champion, and Koscheck is the Shawn Michaels to GSP's Bret Hart. What a weird PPV.
I figured Fedor would lose eventually, but I never would have guessed Fabricio Werdum would be the one to beat him. Fucking crazy.
Yeah, it reminded me of Mir v Lesnar 1. I'm not sure if I'm happy to see Fedor lose to be honest, I mean he totally deserved to, as he just went in for the KO as always, but it was nice riding the hype for a while. I would still like to see Fedor in UFC one day, until then he can never be called the best IMO.
