I have to admit, I'm a bit confused. I thought platinum meant that a million copies of an album have been sold, but if only 3.3 million copies have been shipped worldwide, how could the album go platinum in 16 nations? I hope I don't sound completely stupid, but I don't get it...

 

1 million is for the U.S, every country has a different "platinum number".

 

Because the United States has a bigger musical industry with one of the biggest demand for music from consumers the certifications are at a higher peak than other smaller countries like Canada or the United Kingdom.

 

In South Africa 10 albums is considered platinum.

I think platinum ins Australia is only 75,000 copies.
So yea.

And I can't see 50 Cent beating these sales, surely people aren't that dumb...
