    eh....?
why shouldn't u count in x platinum? platinum = amt sold in million = how record labels sees it.

"wait, one moment all the discs may be downloaded via Net. Is it worth risking it?"????????????????????

risk what? You sell what you sell, you think the record label is stupid enough to drop an LP album cuz they're paranoid bout internet bootleggers? Tours alone pays for promotion plus plenty more. What have they got to lose? Releasing an album is a small investment to Warners, I can assure you that.

ok, so LP has the "biggest song download rate in 2001", it's just shows how popular LP is and it is not a bad sign. why on earth would Warner want to loose an artist if they have "biggest song download rate in 2001"?????

when u sell more than 8 million copies, how can an 'estimation' of 4.2 million "hurt" you?

the last thing warners will do in let go of LP even if it means raisin' their salary to even a higher level

    and referrin' to:
"Usually without a record label it is easier to get your music out there right?"

lol, so wrong. garage bands don't make it easily into the world buy goin' independent. If you are a radio station, would u play more homemade demos or demos from well-known labels? Who's gonna arrange and help you with promotion? How you gonna get connected with other artists? I doubt mike shinoda looked up the Reanimators' phone numbers using his local phone book.

and why the hell would u consider downloading the whole album? Cuz u can't wait to hear it before u have time to go pick up a copy! those 4.2 million most likely counted even those who downloaded, then bought the Cd. It's quite a wild "estimation" they did.

And why is there an argument? there isn't. it's called a discussion. a.k.a. raising your opinion. it's not like every thread has to be whether a useless "closed" thread or an "argument" thread, dude. It's called forum, you discuss things. or would u prefer to tell us what you had for lunch today, that way we wouldn't be "arguing"

Most likely with all the measures Warner is taking to protect the album from getting leaked, it probably will be write-protected.

I also am adding my opinions here.

Now, believe it or not, there are pros to downloading music. The biggest would be that it is free. Another would be that you have the songs before the CD is released, through this is a con too.

But then there are the millions of cons. The first one would be when you download, you miss out on the cool features, in this case such as the 40 page booklet, the DVD, and just the sheer packaging. When you download, you miss out on the "feel" of the CD. Another con is the fact that artists will raise ticket prices to make up for the loss in album sales, as I seen on 20/20 the other day. The third would be that you have a chance of contracting a fake, or a virus. Lets think here-13.99 or 2,000 dollars? Plus, it is illegal. Do I download music? Yes. Am I saying its wrong? No. The point I am trying to get across is-Two or three songs are okay to download from an artist, hell, they put them on their offical website most of the time, and is a good way to get your foot in the door. But, downloading entire CD's is wrong. The respectable artist puts up a few samples, to get you to buy the CD, they dont want you to download the entire CD. Now, I dunno about you, but I would only get their CD if they were a good band, which is why you would be downloading them. If you enjoy the sample tracks, then buy the CD. Now you may say, "What if the rest of the CD bombs?". Well, think about it-most CD's now have special features worth getting the CD for, and you are supporting the artist to make even better music next time.

    Whew, done.

Good Reply. My mom was saying that Warner might even make their own p2p but, you'll have to pay for whatever you download. Or maybe she was suggesting it?... Newayz, I like the idea of a few samples from the CD to get you to buy it.

thats what i do, download a good portion of a cd, or maybe all of it, i call it prevewing, and then see if it is good enough to buy, if it is i will. Insted of hearing a good song they put on the radio, buy the cd, then hate all the songs except the one they put on the radio, i just waisted my money, see, kazza helps me decide just what cd's to buy. like incubus, heard they were good, dled alot of there songs, fell in love, bought the album, unlike Fuel, hard the two songs on the radio, "Hemorrhage" and "Bad Day", i love those songs, so i buy the album, only to find there is only one other song on it i like, waist of my money. see

yeah, the enhanced Cd is a way to encourage people to buy the cd.

$2000 for a virus? lol, most likely not. I've never seen a mp3 file loaded with virus....cuz -it's kinda hard. lol plus, unless u have some wicked genius in the evil world, the worst they can do is cost u a 10 bucks fee.

    Artists raise concert prices? maybe
if u r an artists like LP...8x platinum really doesn't leave anything to make up for. but if ur really that crap that u can't sale sufficient amount to fish in a good income....maybe they oughta get help balancing out their expenses

like you said, there's nothin' like the real deal. i personally am, obvisously am and 100% am gonna get Meteora. Yet, i'm gonna dl it before i get it not because i'm doubtin' LP's work, because i can't sit on my butt all day knowing it's on the net and i don't have to Cd yet -instinct? Download! It's even worse if you pre-order cuz u gotta wait for it to ship. But generally, unless i really like the artist, then i wouldn't really want to "feel" them anyways lol

Well, if you think about it, 8x platnium isnt all that much profit, once you pay the record company, album producers, ads for it, etc.
