Um, I don't see how not liking shitty music makes me intolerant.

I think Metallica is a washed-up band. They aren't good anymore. I listen to well over 500 bands and I can stand all of it. Yet I can just barely stand 2 Metallica songs. To me, that means they aren't good.

And I don't see how that was a flame, so I'm not going to warn you.

i dont like metallicas music so much, some songs are good but overall i dont like them. but therefore i have to accept what great kinds of artists they are and what they are playing on their instruments is so amazing, but i guess you have to play an instrument aswell for seeing that.

I think that if Wes joined, all of the band pictures would be stretched and then what would all these people do with sigs five miles long?

    P.S. Trum-wtf, you've got a broken link, I think.

My friend is a hardcore Metallica fan and he hates the new album along with a lot of his friends who are supposedly hardcore fans as well.

That's enough proof for me to see that they're not who they used to be.

Sure, they were somewhat decent back in the day when it was okay to have poofy-ass hair and sh*t, but they're not even close to being good now. They're all washed up. They suck. THEY SUCK!

    :)

Wes joining LP still sounds like a cool idea to me.

As much as I like Linkin Park, Metallica is better in almost every aspect. James Hetfield is an amazing songwriter, and goes deeper in his lyrics. It's more than just "SHuT uP WeN IM TLkIng To U!!!111". He also has an suprisingly good vocal range, the difference in the style of voice he uses in Nothing Else Matters and Master Of Puppets is incredible. He is also one hell of a ryhtm guitarist, speedy, original riffs, he's something Brad (and Mike I suppose) could only wish to be.

Their old bassist Cliff Burton died in a bus accident after only their 3rd album, was considered one of the best ever. Just watch a video of him soloing, it's amazing. the instrumental Orion in which he has a bass solo shows off his amazing abilities. The song Anestesia (I have no idea how to spell it) is one big bass solo that also shows his skills.

Kirk Hammett, an incredible lead guitarist is one of the best out there today. He's not the fastest (although he is damn fast) but he writes great lead lines and solos. He is VERY influencial and is just plain damn good.

Lars Ulrich the drummer isn't anything special but I'd say he's better than Rob, but at least Rob didn't help in the death of Napster.

I kind of understand where you're coming from though how saying Metallica isn't that good. I used to be biased against them and hated them, but then I actually listened to their music and got into it. Now I love them. You're lucky your dad has a whole bunch of Metallica CDs. I wish my dad had them. I really think you should give Metallica a try. You probably won't like them at first (I didn't) but once you get into them, you want more. And St. Anger does suck so don't listen to it.

Here are some great Metallica songs you should give a try:

Fade To Black - a soft ballad type song but heavy at the same time

Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - this song has somewhat the same idea as FTB

Master Of Puppets - It might be a little long for you but its one Metallica's best songs (imo). It goes off into a quiet little interlude in the middle that's really cool.

Battery - Probably one of Metallica's speediest, aggresive songs and I absolutely love listening to it. Good to listen to when you're angry I suppose.

Hit The Lights - Here's some true thrash metal for you

One - Famous war song. It's great, might be a little long for you but great.

Just give those a listen (at least a few times too). Also it's funny that you liked only Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters. They're great songs but it was also their most commerically successful songs.

You don't understand; I'm not biased - I have given them a chance and I don't enjoy them.

    People just don't like certain bands, I mean come on, get over it;

Charlotte Church has a good range too, but I don't like her even close to Linkin Park.

hmmmm tori i agree with some of your points but i dont think the fact that they are fast means the music they actually makes sounds good.
i mean if someone is playing so fast it will just sound like a jumble and wont be catchy. also in st anger the singing is very flat and the drumming is way to loud.... its just an alround bad song.... although they have some very good songs they also have many many bad ones

Well the whole St. Anger album sucks. It's bad production. I know they tried to make it sound "raw" but it ended up sounding "bad". Also, Metallica may be fast, but they also have slow songs like Nothing Else and The Unforgiven. They're a very versatile band. Besides, there are lots more bands faster than Metallica.

Jawknee I understand that some people just don't like them. I was just stating the fact that some people are biased against them because of the whole Napster and "selling-out" thing like I was. Anyways, their first 4 albums weren't the most pop-type albums so I understand why many people don't like them. I was just suggesting you guys give them a try (or another one) because some of their music just takes getting used to that's all.

Well you probably won't be as impressed by them because you don't really know their songs. But Metallica is known for their live performances and by far put out the best show out of all the bands in the Sumer Sanitarium tour.

I don't have to know the songs - if they're truly a great band like you say, they should impress me.

A great example is when I went to the Family Values Tour 2001. I hated Static-x at the time, and I saw them live, and now I like them.

Well let's just say if you have a good taste in music, you'll be impressed. The setlist will probably be like this:

    Battery
    Master of Puppets
    Harvester of Sorrow
    Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
    For Whom The Bell Tolls
    Frantic
    Sad But True
    St. Anger
    No Remorse
    Seek and Destroy
    Blackened
    -----------------
    Fuel
    Nothing Else Matters
    Creeping Death
    ----------------
    One
    Enter Sandman

I'd make some changes but that's a pretty killer setlist.
