Guardians of the Galaxy - 9/10

Caught a DVD rip of it. The first time I saw it in theaters I thought it was good, but it seemed too dark (visually) and it was hard to hear a lot of the witty lines from the characters. So I wasn't exactly happy with the experience.

Seeing it up close on my computer and with headphones on was a huge improvement. I felt immersed in the world and the dialogue. It was clear just how beautiful everything was, even if the glimpses were very brief. Damn good visual effects. The story is as basic as it gets, but it nails it. My only wish is that the pacing could have chilled out a little bit and let us soak in the environments more. Really sell us on the sci-fi/space opera aspect. Even though we were traveling through space, most of the relevant screen time still felt really confined and claustrophobic. Basically only the transitions gave us the open-world feel.

The sequel has a ton of potential. If they go all out on the sci-fi and visuals, they could have an Avatar on their hands. Very unlikely they'd go that direction unfortunately.

Overall, I think the new Star Wars movies will have a very tough time putting out something this good. GotG destroys all the Star Wars prequels and the Star Treks. It's probably even the best Marvel movie yet. Marvel is really hitting their stride. DC has to be shitting their pants.

Because it took a rather worn out idea, and made something very new out of it. Rather than portraying the Aliens as the enemy, it was the humans who were the problem. With this, the film created a great, thought-provoking social commententary on South Africa's history of Apartheid, unnessesary fear of the unknown, and the selfhishness and greediness of human nature. Plus, the acting was top-notch, and the SFX great. All of this, for a director's debut film, on a relatively low budget.

The movie felt very real in the way it is presented. If what happened actually took place, I feel like it would unfold the way it did. For that alone, I think it deserves tons of praise

    :timothy:

Do you know how annoying it is to type up that response, and then to have you respond only with meh?

    Blue Ruin (2014) - 1.5/5

Besides some nice visuals and a few good gore it was utterly boring, slow and uninteresting. Don't get the hype at all.

Lamb of God: As the Palaces Burn 9/10: Definitely an intense watch. Starts out as a documentary about the fans, then turns into the story of the trial. If you don't know (I'm sure most don't) the singer of band was put on trial 2 years after a fan died in the Czech Republic. He was jumping off stage and sustained fatal injuries. It was alleged that the Randy (the singer) pushed the fan and was the cause of the fans injuries. It was really weird to see them have to explain to the Czech government all the things that happen at a metal show and that those things are the reasons why people come. Also, that despite the aggressive nature of the show, the fan was trespassing on the stage. Another interesting thing was to hear all the conflicting testimonies. The band knew nothing of what happened until the singer was detained when they returned to the Czech for the first time in 2 years. It's a very interesting watch, even if you're not a metalhead.

    Interstellar 8/10

Even with the totally-impossible-WTF-deus-ex-machina third act, it's still visually beautiful and the film presented its confusing plot in spectacular fashion. Matthew McConaughey, Bill Irwin and Jessica Chastain deliver the best performances.

But you haven't given one. You ask why someone likes a particular film and they reply with a well thought out and intelligently written response and all you have to say for is "Meh." If you're not going to give the same effort into your opinion as others have it comes off as very rude and the feel as if they have just wasted their time by replying to someone who isn't even going to entertain the thought of their opinion at all. Instead of "Meh" list some things you don't like, otherwise you are not standing up for your opinion, because you haven't really given one.

    Interstellar (2014) - 3.5/5

I am awfully divided on this film. I think it sets out to be very ambitious in its storytelling and visuals. It succeeds for the most part with the latter, but the storytelling is where I have issues with. Some of the writing are extremely shoddy and cringe-worthly sentimental, which is something I wasn't expecting from Nolan tbh. The pacing also feels very haphazard. The score by Hans Zimmer is mesmerizing and adds a ton to the film's emotional beats, but on their own a lot of the moments don't carry as much weight as they should. Overall, I just felt like it wasn't as tightly made as some of Nolan's other works.

But I have. :disgust: I haven't elaborated on it, but I have given it:

I'm sorry if it comes off rude or whatever, but all I was saying with the "meh" is that the reasons for Gibson's liking of the film don't really end up affecting mine. I respect others' opinions and I do understand why someone would like the film for the reasons he stated. The "meh" was just a (perhaps lazy) summarization of that.

    Drive (2011) - 8,5/10

The first time watching it, I didn't really know what to think of it. The dialogue was at times weird, the silences were too long inbetween lines and the story didn't really got me invested. After that first watch, I probably would've given it a 7/10 or something. Having watched the movie a second time on my tv screen instead of my laptop, in the dark, on loud volume, I have to reconsider my previous thoughts. While I still think some silences between lines are just plain awkward (even though the driver's supposed to be an introvert), the story and the cinematography got me way more invested than last time, as I started to appreciate the limited use of dialogue. And the soundtrack, of course, is pretty much perfect.

    Interstellar- 8.5
Wow what an absolutely beautiful movie. I am a big fan of movies in space and have seen so many movies that take place in space but nothing quite as daring as Interstellar. What can I say about the movie? Its just a really good watch and as a science major, I really appreciated the science mentioned in throughout the film. Even the Endurance was accurate to the science as far as I could tell. The casting was dead on with this movie. I really enjoyed the characters in this movie and especially the development between the two protagonist in the movie. Just a quality movie overall. I don't even mind the ending. Just a super good movie that is suspenseful the entire time. The reason I am not giving it a ten is because the number of times Cooper lived through things and some of the reasons for certain things happening in the movie (being vague to avoid too many spoilers).

    Big Hero 6- (8.5/10)
I really enjoyed this one. Like Interstellar it got me emotional but it also made me laugh so much. It made me tear up by sadness and laughing. The character development for everyone except the villain was great. I loved the character dynamics of everyone in the film. The villain definitely was the weak point in this film and those who watched might understand why. Other than that, a real quality film and Disney Animation Studios really have been on a stride these last 5 years.

12 Years a Slave (2013) – Didn't have the best viewing experience, but the movie itself incorporates pretty much any emotion imaginable. Very well done. 8/10

    spoilers.

the dust has settled. plus this was a shitty post. but damn, this was good. like, damn. i wasn't really expecting
to enjoy it as much as i did. i wanted to see interstellar personally, but my friend insisted on fury.

i'm not one for excessive and unnecessary action, so i really fucking loved most of the action scenes in this
film. the scene in which the platoon encounters the tiger was intense as shit. even that first sequence when
the four tanks engage on the soldiers and tanks hiding in the tree-line.

i wouldn't consider the ending too soft as the internet has been claiming, it actually made a lot of sense as it
happened, and it wasn't until i read about it afterwards that i questioned it. i was really sold on each and every
    character.

    9/10.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 9.8/10

Super fun movie, with great comedy and great action. The only thing wrong with it is that I'd I wish we'd have seen more of it's universe and such. Also pretty different from comic but since it's pretty obscure anyway, I will allow it!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier 8/10

I enjoyed it. Had some problems but it was not horrible.
