I think that style of rock music was in vogue during the time of 2000-2003, a lot of bands had (even superficially) the same sound of HT and Meteora. LP separated themselves by having a more authentic, sophisticated and melodic sound than most of the nu metal acts. They were also smart to release BTH as a single, which indicated to the world they were leaning that way for the future. After Jay Z did Collision Course with them, it showed audiences that LP had crossover appeal and would outlast nu metal and most other hard rock acts I went off on a tangeant and am not even sure my point is relevant to the discussion lol. We should get back on topic soon.
I don't understand why LP fans have this connotation of "pop=bad." But then again, I guess the same people who listen to Korn/Limp Bizkit in 2018 would have an issue with music post 2003 in general.
I never said pop is bad. I’m a very one sided dude cuz all I listen to is LP nothing else. Every one else listens to modern hip hop including all my friends, but I only listen to LP. But have the rap these days have lyrics and flow of a 4 year old. There isn’t a lot of good ones.
Now that I think about it, yeah LP is Pop, as it reached the top 100. @hybridxero11 No offense but that is just bad. Listen to some other bands too. It’s good to have a diverse taste in artists.
Lmao ye I did say I’m one sided. And it’s not like I haven’t heard other music either. And compare LP albums to the top 100
I mean I hear them all the time I just don’t like em as much. I’m in High school rn and every time I hang with my friends that all that’s being played
Pop doesn't refer to just a sound. Pop can refer to 'popular' music. Aka mainstream, aka top 100. Which Linkin Park has been on multiple occasions. Thus they're a pop act. Furthermore, Chester and Mike themselves have called some Hybrid Theory and Meteora songs 'pop' in terms of sound as well. So if they're pop by definition of success, and both vocalists in the band have said their music is pop? It's pop.
Commercially? Critically? Technically? You really wouldn't want to. And, on the lyricism front, as much as I love them, LP have been suspect from the start. Accepting that (or denying it) has been part of being a fan. If you dismiss current pop music as being elementary in terms of lyrics and flows, LP are straight-up newborn babies on that scale.
i suppose, its all down to taste. id rather hear something i can relate to then hearing about drugs, sex, gang shit on every song. trust me im like the least person ud expect in rl to listen to LP haha
Yeah, but, subject matter wasn't the point. You basically dismissed the whole genre because you felt that it was all basic on a musical level: As I hope you've come to realise, a work's emotional resonance is more important than its genre or how technically impressive it is. But you still can't deny basic facts like how Linkin Park's discography is nearly all pop music (so, if you brag about not liking pop music, walk the walk), or the ways in which hip-hop's current dominance is culturally significant. There's a lot of music which has no appeal for me but which I still understand is important and valuable.
my understanding of the genre pop was diffirent when i wrote that. hahah. regardless i still dont like much modern day stuff. exceptions r kendrick lamar, xxxtentacion lol
Don’t gotta explain yourself too much lol. Opinions are opinions, it’s all in the spirit of discussion.
I mean I can write an essay on the whole "lyrics and flow of a 4 year old" and why i disagree but nah. Opinions are opinions. But I will say to what sounds meaningless to you is reality/life to others. As long as you know that, it's OK not to enjoy or relate to it.
