I honestly think it is a great album and my view may change when im older but for now its a great album! You might say its not a great album but there's no doubting that there are some GREAT songs on it. And every band has these albums. For example, metallica's ride the lightning was like hybrid theory and master of puppets was like meteora. there's nothing wrong with master of puppets except that it wasn't much of a step up from Ride The Lightning. But there are great songs on it. And also like this situation, there are fans that support it and oppose it...
If it were up to me the poll would have a "Puddle of Mudd with rapping" option, but as it is "bad" will do. Their last two albums are somewhat spotty, but I'll never understand anyone who yearns for a return to this sound.
I tried looking up "Well" on the interweb but I only found Ronald Reagan's "Well" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WAQeys_7V7c jk Anyway, I don't think Meteora is a bad album at all, it got some great songs IMO (Numb, Faint, Breaking The Habit, From The Inside...). You don't listen to it and say: "omg this is horrible!" It's just that compared to HT and other albums, you can see it's problems
"Solid piece of music" is right, the best thing about Meteora is the music. Not to pick on you because you are 13, but I can understand why a young person would like it.The album is practically written for kids... Then again I was 16 when it came out and thought the lyrics were fucking horrible. I never actually heard of anyone liking the album until years later, and all of them fall into those categories or don't speak English. I was right lol! I don't know how I am being stereotypical though
I'm going to say the album is just OKAY. I adored this album when it first came out, but I was also 12 when it dropped. My tastes have changed, and HT and Meteora haven't aged too well with me. I still like a lot of the sounds. I love some of the samples from songs like Somewhere I Belong, Lying From You, Faint, and Breaking The Habit, but as a cohesive whole, these songs lack lyrical depth, which is important to me. I can still enjoy them for what they used to mean to me and what they mean to me now, but the fact that a lot of these lyrics sound like they could come out of an eighth graders poetry notebook sits awfully with me.
I don't really understand how a lot of you can bash meteora and love hybrid theory. Yes the argument they are like twins is valid, but you can't say "Oh well meteora is lyrically immature." And then turn and praise HT. Thats just idiotic
Well HT's lyrics are way better than Meteora's, first of all. And secondly, it was the original so it gets more credit lol. Even disregarding those reasons, I personally feel the songs on Meteora just weren't as good as HT. That said, I don't really love either of them that much anymore. Especially Meteora.
Standing still is regression. In The End and One Step Closer wasn't lyrical genius, no, but that doesn't mean Somewhere I Belong and Numb can't be worse. That said, yes, most of the Parks lyrics are pretty weak.
Hit the Floor is quite possibly the worst song LP has ever released, that alone brings the album down a few notches. Add the lack of creativity and strict adherence to the HT formula (omitting BTH), and you get the worst LP album, by far.
If you think the lyrics are weak why are you even a fan? All this discussion and bashing of HT, meteora, and even minutes, really makes me wonder how a lot of you consider yourself fans. Idk, maybe because I consider myself a hardcore die hard fan I hold everyone to that same. . . Standard, I guess. But to me it sounds like a lot of people in this forum think ATS is Lp's only legit album. I'm sorry I'm being a bit cross but it seems lately some things I hold dear to me have come under attack.
I feel the same as you... I would expect less bashing on a site that welcomes great LP fans. Why couldn't it be 'I love Meteora',/ 'Well i hate it and I respect your opinion'. Instead of 'I love Meteora',/ 'WHY DO YOU LOVE IT IT IS THE WORST ALBUM EVER!!' I'm 14 and I feel that I can show better respect.
There are a good number of reasons for this consensus. In short, the album is pretty much devoid of any direct aim towards commercial success. As professional musicians, ATS will remain as their riskiest move to date. Whether or not the audience enjoyed the end result, the effort is very admirable. In hindsight, Hybrid Theory was absolutely explosive for its time. Whereas, Meteora was an intriguing venture instrumentally, it featured themes that were blatantly aimed at angst-ridden teens; it's kind of embarrassing to say the least and definitely left a bad taste as it branded the band as a form of emo/pop/nu-metal band for years to come. Minutes to Midnight signified the band's commendable effort in re-inventing themselves. Though, it was not the most exciting "return" album. Their next album may very well be the most enjoyable release since Reanimation as it will probably be the culmination of all the favorable elements stemmed from each album they've put out. After the touring is done with the upcoming album, I expect a hiatus; in which finally the band will release something that will be totally out of left field once more a-la the approach with ATS. /ramble.
