Its Okay. Yes, the lyrics suck. But there are some songs on here that I will always love: Lying from You, Easier To Run, Faint, From the Inside, session & maybe Nobody's listening on occasions. So thats over half the album really thats worth listening to. Its definitely my least favourite studio album by LP and its definitely flawed and perhaps could have been alot better that it was. I still blame Don Gilmore and the label for this though
So 20 people think it's good or better, while 4 think it's bad or worse. That's actually quite better than it would turn out.
I don't see why you'd be surprised. This is a Linkin Park forum. This is the same place that voted Linkin Park being a better band than Pink Floyd and Radiohead in separate polls. It isn't exactly a fair and balanced poll here.
There should be a "good" respons to the thread, because to me, it's more than a "ok album", but it's not a "great record" either. I voted for great because I still like it a lot, even after having listened to its songs for years. Meteora have good sides and bad sides. Yes, songs structures are very pop and get boring, and yes, it's the same formula than HT. And also, yes, lyrics are definitely not LPs best. BUT on the other side, I've always though the melodies in Meteora were very very strong. Figure.09 chorus melody is easily one of my favorite LP melodies ever. Same goes for Don't Stay guitar riff or Faint/FTI choruses. I also love the energy and agressivity of Meteora. And finally, my favorite LP instrumental track belongs to that record: session!
I voted that it was an Okay album. I wouldn't exactly call it horrible but Linkin Park has topped Meteora time and time again. I used to really like Meteora, in fact, but A Thousand Suns has ruined their older music for me.
Meteora is a great album because of classical elements made with metal elements such as songs like faint but i wouldn't call it the best album they made, because late on in their music career when they stretched their boundaries musically that's when inspiration and quality began to arise. This is evident with M2M and ATS and it's also going to be even more evident in their 5th album.
It's how I discovered the band its my favorite albums. It's not there best but its my favorite. I still love it and find that it still has relevance to me, unlike a lot of you apparently. I think if you took away the fact the meteora came after HT and just put them side to side it would just flat out be the better album
It's okay. I'm not going to deny that there's a few songs that should have never seen the light of day (Hit The Floor, Numb, and Somewhere I Belong) but with Meteora came some solid songs in my opinion. Nobody's Listening is great in it's own right, if only for it's instrumental, and Lying From You is one of the most rocking songs they've ever done along with Faint.
THANK YOU for being able to differentiate those two things. You can have a favorite album and admit its not their best. I appreciate you were able to say that.
As I just said in the other thread, I believe the band when they say they felt there was still more that could be done with the sound they'd developed up until that point. There's a bit more variation in terms of tempo, time signatures, sonic textures and stuff and the results vary. Some of that experimentation was inconsequential while some of it yielded songs which couldn't have existed on "Hybrid Theory", both for better or worse. For those reasons, I don't hate "Meteora" too much. It's just that, in the wake of the band's newer music, it doesn't sound very good. And, lyrically, I feel that some of the songs - not a great many, though mind you - were a step back from "Hybrid Theory".
I neither love it nor hate it. It's funny because when I first listened to it, my favorite track right away was Easier to Run, it wasn't until later that I realized that the reason I liked it so much was because it sounds so much like Crawling, which is the song that got me into LP. I listen to it (along with HT) when I'm feeling nostalgic, and From the Inside is still one of my favorite LP songs.
Yeah, "From The Inside" is my favourite song off the album, partly because, even though the vocals are so heavily effected, I like the vocal performances. And, also, the video for the song is one of my favourites from the band - on that note, actually, I think the band put out most of their best music videos during the "Meteora" cycle.
Yeah, there is a big difference. It really got me through a lot of shit so its just naturally my favorite. But also as a fan of music in general, I can step back and see why people may not like it as much and as a fan of music, ATS is by far their best lyrical and musical album, but meteora is just a special thing for me. So I disagree but kind of empathize (for lack of a better word) with the disliking of meteora
Indeed, LP's had many kinds of videos, but those or Meteora are pretty much the best. And yes, that of "it's not their best but it's my favorite thing" is a quite solid statement. I mean, I mentioned it on the other thread, that in my case I can't quite put an order in Linkin Park albums as of which one is my favorite or which one I think it's the worst. Many of you guys know and can pick one hands down, but for some reason I can't, simply because to my eyes [or ears, perhaps] they're different (ok back again, I know HT and Meteora not too far from each other) and there is something I really like about each one of them, and I could definitely agree and say Meteora is not their best, but it's still quite good. On the other hand, I can see some of you guys talking about the lyrics and stuff and how they have turned some of you off over the years, and I realized, maybe that COULD be the thing that shadows my judgement a little bit, why? Because I don't originally speak english and actually, when I first listened to Linkin Park in HT and Meteora, I didn't speak english at all! .. And I can see myself even to this very day, that I listen to the songs (not necessarily LP) and sing along with them by mere inertia and do not pay attention to the lyrics at all, as if I was just humming in jibberish, it doesn't happen really often since now I'm more aware of them but it does, and I could say I haven't counted them as a key factor when comparing the albums.. Also, I must say sometimes I have a hard time understanding the context of some songs when the lyrics are not that straightforward. I can understand the words and their meaning but sometimes I can't relate them to real situations or get the metaphor. Still, I have to back what someone said on the Article News post, Meteora was necessary for LP, maybe it was a step they needed to make in order to go where they are now, which is MTM and ATS, and hopefully Album 5.
You have to take into account, also, that what's considered the "best" is just more or less what the largest amount of people consider their "favourite" as well. In the end, whether art is "good" or "bad" is subjective.
See, I actually kind of disagree with that. I believe there is objectivity in art as well. I also believe it can be difficult to find objectivity. There are movies I do not enjoy at all, that I know are "good" movies. Same with music. There's also music I enjoy, like random dubstep songs on YouTube, that I know are not quality music. If you know what goes into making a good piece of art, that creates an objective criteria. But I do agree that most people don't take this into consideration at all.
