I love the first two lines right after the instrumental bridge/synth solo, before the full chorus comes back on..
I will never understand how Mike is capable of singing such beautiful vocal harmonies live on songs like UIG and Papercut, but when he needs to sing the more "reachable/easy" notes solo, he starts getting all shaky and nervous. Humanized? Sure, but still weird.
The simple fact that Mike was on Conan is a dream come true for me. (I know LP was on Late Night with Conan 14-15 years ago, but it's been a while lol)
Yeah, Conan producers enjoy indie bands a bit better. Hope to see Linkin Park on Conan in the near future, however.
I'm making multiple accounts to report the rest of your videos and I'm going to get you banned from YouTube.
That was awesome. I have so much respect for Mike. Whether you enjoy the direction his music takes, or his production style, or his interview responses, nobody can deny that this man is everywhere. Collaborations with Aoki on songs like A Light That Never Comes and Darker Than Blood, hard-as-fuck songs that are present on The Hunting Party, hip-hop songs like this in Fort Minor, or stripped down acoustic goodness like the Final Masquerade version we got a few months ago...this man has some serious talent.
I wish people would chill out about the whole 'auto-tune' thing. Mike made the creative decision to have audible 'tune' on his vocals in the final version of 'Welcome'. So, when Mike, one man, performs said song live he's going to have pretty much every track playing as his backing....so, he again made the creative decision to feature those same 'tuned' vocals layered on the track during the choruses to give the song some thickness. Is he still singing live? Yes. Are there other vocals that he previously recorded playing as well? Yes. Is this the end of the world? No.
I don't think you're interpreting the comments here correctly. Nobody is saying anything about autotune as much as "This chorus is nowhere near as difficult vocally as INSERT SONG HERE that he does live, it's weird that on this chorus though he's kinda struggling." Which again, as everyone has said, is more of a confidence issue than anything. We KNOW he can hit those notes. It's just him by himself that's causing mental blocks.
The use of Auto-Tune wasn't a crutch to compensate for a lack of singing ability but for aesthetics, to help the lead vocal sit better with the more processed playback layers. It's only because Shinoda's singing was a little shaky during some moments, which I attribute to nervousness, that you really noticed it. Next time he does it, or, at latest, after that, it'll be fine.
He's singing over the top of the studio vocals on the chorus (which are, admittedly, quite auto-tuned). There are no effects on his live vocals there that aren't present during the rap verses. Download link worked perfectly fine for me.
Again, not saying he was using it as a crutch. Just that he was understandably shaky because of nervousness or confidence.
