I guess it can be called that. It's not like an anti-American thing. In fact there's no mentioning of Bush or anyone like that. It's more like a film about a government abusing it's powers by scaring it's citizens into obediance. Flashes of the current American government, yes, but taken to extreme. It's like a more-extreme America with the gestapo ruling it. It's kind of scary, heh. Natalie Portman is great in it. And Hugo Weaving does an awesome job.
OMG wow.. so great.. i loved the ending i think u'd have to be pretty open minded to like this movie; i like the way it makes u think in the end. im going to have to see thsi movie a couple of more times to get the whole 'plot' ...but it was definately worth my money
It's not really super-political in a technical sense. Don't let that scare you. Government is portrayed in a way that pretty much anyone can relate to. It also gives you a real great feeling when you see that people can make a difference. That's why the movie's tagline about 'governments being afraid of their people' is so appropriate. By the way, if you've seen it, did anyone else find a certain TV spoof to be totally hilarious?
Didn't know that. I heard they were considering making a new version based off of the novel, but it was always just people wanting to who never could. I've been hoping for a "Brave New World" movie (based off the book) more than 1984, though. Equilibrium was pretty similar to that and 1984, though.
Seems like an awsome movie but I want to see The Hills Have Eyes first ... actually I think the age restriction sucks it should be 15 years old I guess here Belgium it won't be that "old" though ...
still aching to see this movie, hopefully I'll have time this saturday. I'm not sure if anybody has seen this yet, haha it's pretty funny. http://hotyo.com/Browse.asp?FileID=407 It's a video starring Natalie Portman, enjoy.
I agree 200% with everything Mark has said. Best movie I have seen in a long time. The only people I know that didn't like it are people obsessed with their political views and thought the things in the movie were far too radical (even for my best friend who is super liberal) and unbelievable.
V For Vendetta is actually based on the Guy Fawkes incident (V's mask looks almost actually like Guy Fawke's face) so I can't see how it can be a knock-off. This movie looks really awesome and I am looking forward to seeing it.
The two are actually pretty similar. In each a man decides to try to overthrow an opressive government with the help of a few others, but fails.
