Part 2, for the contents of the song. Maybe it’s because on a personal level as a grown-ass man I still have reasons to like this kind of “call-out” song lyrically, but I feel it’s ageless. I’d disagree with immaturity as an impression. While Mike’s delivery sounds downright plucked from a demo, I relate and find nothing cringey about this song at all. This day and age, I still have plenty people around me making me think “Man, your imagination is overactive and dark. You put positive stock in no one and cause all your own problems as you make them everyone else’s. That’s it. Fuck. Off. With your bullshit.” The opening “Get right” is appropriately unhinged for someone who’s been pushed too far and I love that. It reminded me of Wth>You’s intro. The guitar work is a guilty pleasure, also. I think they tapped their origins as well as they could without it sounding like forced pandering. It feels like the perfect balance of carefully done and carefree, which is why it works for me. That… sounds like a contradiction in hindsight. But in my book, it avoided delivery and lyrical pitfalls that made certain older songs age poorly for me.
I very much enjoy this song, albeit I can admit that I am a sucker for this type of sound. It's very nostalgic and holds some angst that isn't based on poor relationships with your parents. Also, the music video is super fun and you can tell how much the band members are enjoying being back in the swing of things. That makes me happy and I don't care if you think otherwise. Stop yelling at me.
I'm not one to put much weight on or get hyped up about music videos, but the one for Two Faced really improved my opinion of the song. The fun the band is having is infectious and now I can't separate those good vibes from the track. It's a blast from the past written in 2024. Nothing more, nothing less. And that's good enough for me. P.S. I won't be surprised if we learn this was a long lost, unfinished Xero demo brought back from the vault.
I think it’s the best song on the album—an excellent chorus and great guitar riffs. It also gives off strong Figure.09 vibes! Love Joe’s scratching as well.
Okay, this one put the biggest smile on my face. Yes, it is obnoxiously old-school LP, to the point it becomes funny. And you can bet the band knows it. The Fuse snippet right before is not on the album by accident. This is honestly a very sweet tribute to the start of the band, and they aced every aspect of it. It's totally the nostalgia speaking here but : 10/10
I know it's been said, but my initial impression of this song was "Wow that was just Figure .09, right?" I absolutely see the One Step Closer similarities, as well. Also this is the point in the album where I stared getting tired of the candid clips at the end. 25/100
The more I think about it, the more confident I am that the bridge "Stop yelling at me" is a direct Easter egg reference/answer to to One Step Closer bridge. It just fits too well
Absolutely. This song is probably the biggest eater egg on the record in the most direct way without actually outright saying it. It's totally intentional. People may shit on this song for the bands comments about their origins in the past. But it's okay, they've been through a lot and for the first time in a long time, a music video has elevated a song in music. Bring me back FuseTV in the morning before I get ready for school and lemme jam to this bitch on my walkman.
I like how much Mike’s flow and lyrics are almost exactly how they were in 2003. I’m sure that was intentional on his end to harken back to that style so I’ll forgive maybe the less flattering aspects of his rapping from Meteora. That being said, I don’t really like the chorus at all. That melody is just so cheesy imo
Yep that's it. I love they've done that. It's something we'll probably never get again, at least not in such obvious form, but I love they did it here and had tons of fun with it. That was the right time.
I have to say - it's so great to hear a classic Brad riff in this style. The guitar riff is a little similar to Wastelands and obviously the Figure.09 demo during the bridge which I appreciate. The chorus is so catchy and when the bass guitar kicks in during Mike's rap, it's like I'm being transported back to my 2003 self.
One of the best songs they've made in years, I would say the best since Meteora if The Hunting Party didn't exist
The more I listen to this track, the more I'm able to separate a bit more from old LP. I mean. Of course, it is still the most old LP sounding track we've gotten since 2006 With that said, the chorus harmonies and mostly clean approach differs from the old rasp. Most importantly, the guitar work in the chorus is much more dynamic than on most old LP songs. And it SLAPS.
Listening right now on my better quality headset, the spacey synth from the intro of the song is really nicely mixed into the verses. Quiet but still very clear in the upper left headphone. There are fun ways that this song is subtly different from the earlier LP albums. The guitar tone is much more of a growl here, chunkier if that makes sense. Emily's vocals are intentionally left very raw, the mic kinda sounds like it's peaking, her voice cracks, which is a lot more like Xero demos given the equipment they had at the time. The chorus here has a lot more variety than the early stuff, this one has a second movement/groove during "you should have recognized, it's too late for choosing sides" and the final chorus goes longer for the final jam.
Am I the only one hearing a bit of SOAD in the way Emily sings the chorus in the live version? Like the "You should havе recognized" part.
When I first heard this song it just didn't vibe well with me. After hearing the whole album on loop a few times it grew on me more and more. I just watched the music video for this and I'm fucking blown away. I never thought a video could transform a song so much.
Right? That video adds so much context that adds to the enjoyment of the song. They're so goofy. Also, I was weirdly hyperfixated upon comparing the chorus melody with the ones on Meteora earlier, idk why. It's not that groundbreaking, Chris. I still think it's nice though!
