Write this off at your own peril people. I'm not saying it'll be good. But let's wait and see. You can hear the whole interview here: http://www.kiisfm.com/podcast/onair.xml
I'm interested to hear what this will sound like, but seriously, I think Timbaland is getting in a bit over his head. The reason Timbaland was such a great producer back in the Magoo days was because he wasn't EVERYWHERE. Saturation is a bitch, and if he reaches out too far people will just start saying "Oh that's another Timbaland track." That's basically what happened to Wu-Tang back in the day. But on a humourous note: Timbaland vocals on Black Hole Sun. And now I leave you.
Sometimes I think people forget that both artists agree to work together, it's not just Timbaland trying to produce what he can get his hands on. I'm not the biggest fan of Cornell, but anything he does is always half decent so I'm sure this album isn't going to be as bad as everyone is making out to be, I mean, nobody has even heard it yet and it's already getting a ton of shit. I try not to judge albums until I've heard them, no matter how peculiar it may sound.
£100 to charity says that we have just as much a basis for saying it'll suck as you have for saying it'll be good. I'm not a big fan of Cornell (Most pretentious lyricist ever, talented vocalist but occasionally sings like he enjoys the sound so much he's actually climaxing and shitting himself at the same time) and I don't really care for Timbaland, ergo I probably won't like the album. Still, Cornell lyrics + Timbaland production = a comedy album of Mitch Hedberg standards.
Chris Cornell's lyrics are among the best. I've no idea what you're getting at with this 'pretentious' nonsense. Sound's like you've got an agenda against the man. What a load of bollocks. Singing in the higher register to convey emotion doesn't equal shitting yourself or climaxing. So your basis for saying it will suck is that you don't like Cornell or Timbaland. Err that doesn't mean it will suck, that means you probably won't like it. In a world of boring time signatures and average vocalists, Chris Cornell shits on almost everyone from great heights.
Err I've already said that. As much as Pitchfork are jockeys usually, and bearing in mind that I do realise it only covers one album released since his peak; http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/15110-out-of-exile It has to be said a lot of his lyrics are a load of pseudo-spiritual bollocks. Read as: there are points where I find he indulges himself way too much and begins to caterwaul when really he actually sounds much better singing in the lower part of his range. Plus, in the Black Hole Sun video he actually looks like his eyes are about to roll into the back of his head... Kim Thayill (sp?) was a really good guitarist though. Anyway, back to the crux of the argument, as we've both already said it's just me that isn't a fan of his. If you like him then fine. The analogy I gave probably was harsh, and it's not as if I completely hate him as evidenced by me calling him a talented vocalist. Well, it's one thing to discuss opinions, but it's another entirely to argue over who's right or who's wrong or who isn't making sense or who brings home the bacon.
Pretty much. I just don't understand why people get so riled up when someone "disses" their favorite band or artist. It's just a difference of taste. I could give less than two-shits about what others think about the music I listen to.
What exactly are you going off of? Timbaland is a proven producer. Chris Cornell is a proven singer. Timbaland is more widely known for his work in rap, but does that automatically mean he can't produce a rock CD? Not by any means at all. And it's not like Cornell didn't look for producers to try different stuff. I think Cornell knows his shit about rock more than anyone else in here. He seems to feel pretty good about the album... I respect his opinion about rock music more than anyone else's in here (no disrespect to anyone).
I'm going off of the fact that I'm not a fan of either. It's not rocket science. There's no need to use that whole "Actual professional musicians know better" logic either. It's just like when people say "Yeah, well, I'd like to see you do better".
