... I didn't like the album much. The female voice throughout it saying words from the album title is superfluous, doesn't add ANYTHING other than making me roll my eyes. It was also a bit preachy in places for my tastes (End of All Days, especially.) It's like they expect us to have forgotten the album title, or something. And we have as problem with TOO MUCH CROWD VOCALS. They don't need to be on EVERY track with vocals, guys! I mean, a little variety never hurt anyone now, did it? It just makes me cringe. I wouldn't mind if they weren't there all the freaking time. On the plus side, we have a more cinematic feel. Orchestral stuff, I adore, and there were a couple of tracks with a bit of a cinematic scope (Birth, Pyres of Varanasi). I also enjoyed Convergence, for what it's worth. I'll probably give the album another listen or two to see if I can figure out which tracks to keep in my playlist and which ones to dump. So... Yeah. I'm probably not gonna be listening to this that much.
Yeah I think the female voice was so unnecessary, it didn't even blend with the songs, they could've made the effort.
Damn. The first tracks leaked gave me hope about the album, but this doesn't... at all :/ I'll still listen to it later to see how it turns out.
I'm still going to spontaneously say that crowd vocals are fucking awesome, just to annoy people One question- what did the girl at the beginning of "Do or Die" say and what language was it in?
If anybody wants to get rid of the "Love", "Lust", "Faith", "Dreams" stuff at the end of some of the songs, just go into iTunes, right click on the following songs then click "Get Info", "Options", choose "Start Time" or "Stop Time" and fill in the following times: Birth, Start Time: 0:00.75 Conquistador, Stop Time: 3:12.286 Pyres of Varanesi, Stop Time: 3:11.5 Convergence, Stop Time: 2:00.814
Birth, 4/5 Conquistador, 4/5 Up In The Air, 4/5 City of Angles, 3/5 The Race, 4/5 End Of All Days, 3/5 Pyres Of Varanasi, 3/5 Bright Lights, 4/5 Do or Die, 4/5 - second verse is dope. Convergence, 2/5 - what the fuck was that? Northern Lights, 4/5 Depuis Le Début, 3/5 - good start, but a disappointing ending really. I'd love an instrumental of the album, much like LIVING THINGS. Some of the instrumentals sound terrific, but put down by preachy-like vocals (End Of All Days). Not sure if I want to 3/5 or 4/5. The latter seems a little too generous, I don't know.
Overall, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS is an "awesometacular" album. Birth - 8/10. A very different short thing. Very good vocals, wish they're could have been Jared screaming or something near the end. It would've been more memorable. Conquistador - 7/10. Like the heavier mood they set with it. Wish the chorus could have been more than "hey hey say a prayer." Up in the Air - 9/10. I've listened to this song a thousand times since it first came out and it still hasn't gotten old. Perfect single to release to get fans pumped for the album. City of Angels - 8/10. Pretty good song, love the strings in the song. The Race - 9/10. Chorus is and bridge make this song awesome. End of All Days - 10/10. Favorite of the album, no doubt. Absolutely in love with the dark, ballad mood in this song. Pyres of Vranasi - 9/10. Not much to say. It's a damn sick instrumental. Bright Lights - 8/10. Bridge is my favorite part of the song Do or Die - 9/10. This is like the upbeat version of Kings and Queens. Love it. Convergence - 6/10. Not that I didn't like it, it just didn't catch my attention. Northern Lights - 10/10. Instrumental part to this song makes this song amazing Depuis Le Debut - 9/10. Great way to end the album. Love how it's divided into three parts: 1. Before Chaos 2. During Chaos 3. Aftermath/Solace 1 Song: End of All Days 99/100 (It's rare for me to give a song a 99/100) 2 Song: Northern Lights 96/100 3 Song: Depuis Le Debut 93/100 Again, Thirty Seconds to Mars, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS is: "AWESOMETACULAR"
Thought I'd do a review. LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS 01. BIRTH - 9/10 A brilliant intro. There is not really much to say here, I love it. The music is amazing. 02. CONQUISTADOR - 9/10 One of my favorite tracks from the record, if not the favorite. Really my only complaint here would be that the chorus could have used some more lyrics. But the song works even without that - it's catchy, energetic, and sounds very fresh. 03. UP IN THE AIR - 7,5/10 I didn't like it when it first came out, but it grew on me. The lyrics aren't the best 30stm can do (the entirety of this album is not even close to that), I mean, come on, I'll wrap my hands around your neck with love, love? And Tomo even said he thinks it's the best thing Jared has ever written. Yeah, my ass. My ass, Tomo. Other than that, it's not a bad song, and it definitely serves a lead single's purpose and has the identity of one. 04. CITY OF ANGELS - 6/10 This song did not leave a big impression on me. It isn't bad, it's original enough as well - but it simply isn't anything special. Really a song that is, for me, hard not to disregard. 05. THE RACE - 7/10 Musically and melodically a great song (hence the rating). Lyrically a disaster. The very first time I was listening to it, the opening line made me cringe. I can't believe this album was written by the same man who wrote 30 Seconds to Mars, A Beautiful Lie and This Is War. I would have never expected such corniness out of Jared. Come on, dude. Come the fuck on. 06. END OF ALL DAYS - 6/10 Kind of the same situation as with City of Angels. I don't care much about this song. It didn't impress me, it didn't amuse me, it didn't make me want to listen to it again. 07. PYRES OF VARANASI - 8,5/10 I liked this one very much. I find it very unique and interesting to listen to, and it did impress me. I think that's enough to say. This is one of the rare highlights of the album. 08. BRIGHT LIGHTS - 5/10 These lyrics... these fucking lyrics... they make me cry. LOVE, ALRIGHT, LOVE, WE GET IT, JARED. NOW FUCK OFF. Another uninteresting song. If I ever listen to Bright Lights again, it will be the Placebo song, not this one. 09. DO OR DIE - 6/10 I wish I could feel something, but I can't. This song is just... well over generic to be 30 Seconds to Mars. 10. CONVERGENCE - 8/10 A breath of fresh air, finally. This is a melancholic little interlude that just goes on to prove how superior the instrumentals are over lyrics on this album. Yeah, I wish there wasn't that bloody "dreams" at the end, but there's nothing I can do about it. The track itself is nice. 11. NORTHERN LIGHTS - 8/10 A very cinematic piece. This one I like, this one I can feel. Good job. 12. DEPUIS LE DÉBUT - 9/10 The beginning has that unplugged sort of feel. The synth/string part is awesome, and the ending is rather unexpected, but I wouldn't call it disappointing, just surprising. ~ Overall, I have to say that this is undoubtedly the worst 30 Seconds to Mars album so far. Musically it is amazing - original, unique, innovating, fresh. Lyrically, it is awful. The lyrics definitely ruin the album, and in the end LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS does not live up to the mystique of 30 Seconds to Mars, the guitar-driven sound of A Beautiful Lie, nor the epicness of This Is War. The female voice is tiring, and - even though I think I know what it was supposed to do - it simply doesn't do that for me. But the band haven't disappointed me. Jared pointed out how they will never make the same record again, and I find that impressive, because they truly haven't done it so far, and almost every band does it - not that it's a bad thing, but somehow I really respect the band for not making two albums with the completely same style. And that's why I won't, and no one should, give up on the band - because I believe the next album is going to be something completely different again. EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot. 30 Seconds to Mars = A Beautiful Lie = This Is War > LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS.
Well, overal, the album feels like the soundtrack of one of those big actions movies. There was less crownd singing than I though it would, and that's a good news. Some tracks (City of Angels, Bright Lights, Do or Die), lyrics, and that annoying female voice stops it from being great. In my opinion, it doesn't stand up compared to their first 2 records but it's a tad better than This is war.
Still need to listen. have only heard the songs released as lyric videos on youtube so far but it sounds great so far
I don't get why people just can't accept change. This my probably my favorite album. I don't understand why everyone says it's "lyrically awful." In my opinion, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS is WAY better than 30 Seconds to Mars and is a little better than This is War. I still can't tell if this or A Beautiful Lie is better. I hate it when fans just can't accept change from a band that is meant to be constantly changing.
Varanasi is a holy city in the northern part of India. Ganga, the most sacred river of Hindus ,flow through this city. So most of the people prefer their funeral rite to take place near the shores of Ganga in Varanasi. Hence the title..Hope i made it clear..Pretty surprised to see that title on this album.
LOL No-one is refusing to accept that the band has changed, but doesn't mean that people are obliged to love it or that fans aren't allowed to complain if they don't like it, however unjustified it might seem to you. Just because it's your favourite album doesn't mean that'll be the case for everyone else.
Good songs: Conquistador Up in the Air City of Angels End of All Days Pyres of Varanasi Bright Lights Do or Die Northern Lights Depuis Le Dnbut Alright Songs: The Race Convergence Bad Songs: Birth Not gonna give the song ratings or anything. Maybe sometime in the future. But I really enjoyed this album, and it doesnt fall off at the end like the last one does. A Beautiful Lie>LLF+D>TIW>30STM
Thank you! I can assume Depuis Le Debut is a french expression that means "After the debut", I'm only assuming this because in spanish it's "Después del debut". EDIT = Depuis actually means "since" and not "after" like in spanish, according to google. Lol. Now, whether the expression has some other meaning behind it, I don't know
It means "Since the beginning" in French, but maybe you already knew that and you're asking for a more deep meaning of that song title. Then, I can't help you ^^' Edit: and about the "can't accept change" thing, it has nothing to do with it. I don't mind directions changes, even more when it happens with artists I'm just a casual fan of. I simply think that their first albums sounded better, that is all. I'm not asking for them to do that sound again or anything.
