This album is great. People will hate it for not being rock but it's a great album full of great songs.
The album is actually not so bad as expected tbh, I think it has some really good songs but also some of the worst songs they ever wrote. - Walk on Water: still don't like this one at all, really forgettable. - Dangerous Night: same as the first song with really boring and bland production too. - Rescue Me: the worst song on the album imo. - One Track Mind (feat. A$AP Rocky): at least something different, but it sounds like a Post Malone song or something, not really a fan of this kind of stuff especially the ridiculously big amount of autotune. I'm really picky when it comes to autotune - Monolith: Pires of Varanasi part II. - Love is Madness (feat. Halsey): could easily fit on Halsey's own album . but I really like this one, amazing song imo. - Great Wide Open: not bad sounds really typical 30stm but still has some fresh elements on it. - Hail to the Victor: the drop is ok that's it. - Dawn Will Rise: one of the best songs here, sounds great. - Remedy: the first 30STM song with Shannon on lead vocals, i think it's an ok acoustic song nothing more. - Live Like a Dream: WOOOOH, WOOOOH - Rider: finally strings! wow the outro is probably the best part of the whole album, gives me some Dark Souls' soundtrack vibe.
This album was extremely disappointing, but I didn't even have high expectations after hearing the singles. There was a small handful of good songs, the rest were just boring or absolute garbage. If this truly is their last album, then this was a pathetic final attempt.
It's funny, once again AltWire has done a review that is different than the public consensus . Wasn't me who did it this time though, so don't shoot the messenger. https://www.altwire.net/2018/04/06/album-review-thirty-seconds-to-mars-america/
Seems like the same happened to Breaking Benjamin's Ember review. As to that one, I still need to hear the other bulk of tracks, but it doesn't seem all that promising to me five songs into the record already, which would supposedly be those the band thought would be the most impactful. Opinions, I guess.
Interesting to see their debut at last, many of their fans praising it to hell . but it's my least favorite too: This is War A Beautiful Lie Love Lust Faith + Dreams America 30 Seconds to Mars
This one review explained my thoughts on this album well. This isn't like Linkin Park, experimenting with new sounds and styles for the sake of trying new things and fueling that creative desire. This was just an attempt to hop on modern trends, tossing out their entire identity (besides their "oh"s which have become a staple to their band now) in the process.
My ranking: A Beautiful Lie Self-Titled This Is War LLFD America That 30STM name-drop in A$ap Rocky's verse in "One Track Mind" is so cringeworthy. I hated the one in LP's "Good Goodbye" too.
Stormzy's name drop wasn't nearly as bad. Stormzy's was a decent play on words... not really sure what A$AP Rocky was trying to accomplish besides pure cringe
Its weird, but this is somehow i feel Well, not the "fuck your opnion" part, but the opposite thing. The last reviews i read just disagree with mine a lot
I guess I'm kind of "into" hip-hop. I mean, Drake and Weeknd do name drops all the time. For me I think my issue is with these guys coming in on rock songs and bringing that over with them. Just doesn't fit the songs, IMO. I actually kinda like the rest of ASAP's verse.
