True but when they build their fanbase around the nu-metal sound, and then go ahead and make something entirely different it pisses a lot of people off and they lose a lot of hardcore fans. bands like Godsmack or Disturbed have kept their sound mostly the same and Disturbed has had 3 #1 debuts on the Billboard 200 in a row. People didn't seem to think they exhausted their sound. If they changed a bit so they weren't making a trilogy and not changed so they sound like U2 people probably would not have minded to much. I like the songs on Minutes To Midnight but there is just to many slow ones for me.

It's called taking a risk. If Linkin Park wants to change their sound, then so be it. At least they would be challenging themselves as artists and hopefully their fan base will follow along with them. If not, then that's just the way it is. Not every fan is going to like every single thing this band does. But if I see them growing as artists and pushing themselves to evolve into a band that has ditched the tiresome "nu-metal" sound and that they will make great music in the process, then that's enough for me. Sticking with the same sound won't get you too far for long.

And for the record, I stopped listening to Disturbed/Godsmack for that very reason. I got tired of hearing the same sound over and over again.

I think all the songs they made were good they just changed so much it kinda annoys me. But I have hopes for the new song and album. Giants>Eagles by the way.

Fixed that for you. I refuse to get into a football debate in here so keep it on topic.

I hope Brad does some more interesting stuff on the guitar. I think that would liven up the songs a bit for the next album. It would be sweet if the new song had a guitar solo in it also.

Damed if you do, damned if you don't.

I'm glad they ditched their old sound, in a way. It would be nice to have that sound, but they overused the whole intro/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus structure, so they went a different way.

I sure hope he doesn't do more guitar solos. Some intricate guitar work would be nice, but Brad's guitar solos are kind of lacking if you ask me. LTGYA wasn't too bad though.

In regards to the whole experimentation thing, I think that the album would've been more sell accepted if the band had actually experimented. Yeah, it was different for LP, but they broke out of their own box and jumped right into the box of Top 40 radio. Barring In Pieces and Little Things, nothing there was even remotely experimental. What I've Done, Given Up, Bleed It Out, and No More Sorrow were basically old Linkin Park with slightly better production, and Shadow Of The Day, Leave Out All The Rest, Valentines Day, and In Between were incredible generic soft pop. Hands Held High was kinda experimental, but the "amen" chorus kinda ruined it.

LP isnt really entitled to make music that we like..just like how we arent forced to listen to music we dont want to listen to..they arent forced to write music they dont want to..im happy they have moved foward..even tho i didnt think MTM was outstanding i still think it was a solid rock album..so lets see what they do this time around..personally i would like to see the harder side of them..and i think mike should contribute more vocally..rather it being rap or sing

If you mean "obligated" rather than "entitled" then I agree with you completely. I am so, so very excited to hear what they come out with next. If it isn't like anything they've ever done, that'd be a good start.

According to LPU newsletter the title of Linkin Park's new song is called 'New Divide', it is the theme song and lead single from the upcoming movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The song will premiere on radio worldwide on May 18 and will also be available for download on iTunes that same day. Mike says, "The opportunity to be creatively involved with one of the most anticipated films of the summer is pretty exciting. It's one thing to shoot a video that matches sound and vision, but making music that's built for the big screen is a completely different challenge and we ran with it." The movie opens in theatres worldwide on June 24 and the soundtrack will hit the stores on June 23. Check out three new one sheet promo posters.

They already were a commercial band, and by their own standards and the standards of the bands they tend to be grouped with they experimented quite a bit. Practically the only way you can say it was more commercial than their previous work was that it was softer and less aggressive, and even then songs such as Valentine's Day are arguably harder sounding than Meteora just because there's an actual dynamic in the production and mixing instead of just having paper-thin guitar and drums with vocals that have been overdubbed a million times. I could type loads more but I have to get ready.

Bah, releasing by itunes? They still do 128kb/s mp3s don't they? I guess it'll come out on the transformers soundtrack cd eventually so we'll get better quality then.

Oh, and haven't you guys gotten over the fact that Linkin Park changed yet?

Also, Linkin Park never said they were going experimental, they said they were going to experiment with how THEY do things. They didn't plan on becoming the next King Crimson like many of you seem to have assumed they would. And experimental doesn't always mean good, just like mainstream doesn't always mean bad.

Thank you. No one expected them to turn into that sort of band, and if anyone did they probably shouldn't have. If they ever do get to that level it definitely wouldn't have been with the first album that they decided to do something substantially new on after almost a decade of not varying their output much.

I think certain bands are better off just doing similar things for their whole career, but I also think Linkin Park would be wasted as that sort of band, especially if they continued down the Meteora route and just became more calculated and overproduced with each album.

When I get enough time I'm going to write a review/analysis of MTM as I see it now, and post it here. I have too much to say about it to articulate here.

Probably sooner, since they said that the song is officially going to be the first single off the soundtrack. There will probably be a CD single released for it before the soundtrack comes out. Thankfully this won't be like No Roads Left where we had to wait like 6 months before it was released on a physical medium.

w00t @ confirmation of a video being filmed for it too.

iTunes releases their songs as 256kbps AAC files but you can convert it to an .mp3. I believe it also is DRM free now if I'm not mistaken. Only bummer part of this is since it is Linkin Park, they'll probably price it at $1.29 instead of the $.99 we're used to. No biggie.

Ah well that's not bad at all then. But yeah, i don't plan on buying it from itunes. It only takes a few people to buy it before it's on the interweb.

Everyone who can't accept that LP has changed needs to just get over it. The band aren't obligated to please anyone...I'm sure they have enough money now to be able to retire tomorrow. Fact is that they won't because they love creating and playing music for their fans. Fans who don't bitch about how they 'betrayed' them because Minutes To Midnight sounds different to Meteora and Hybrid Theory. Meteora was a great album and it has some of my favourite songs on it of all time, but even I can say that they might aswell have named it Hybrid Theory Volume II.

Good bands naturally evolve their sound.
