Factor in packaging, shipping, R&D, paying the people who work in the factories, paying anyone else involved with the iPod at Apple, ect, and it's not 50%. Components are not the only costs associated with an electronic device.
Pretty sure R&D would take a big percentage here. ;)

    Nikola - Mmkay then. 43.89GB :)

They can't because if they reduced the prices of all of their MP3 players, they wouldn't be making any profit and that's how companies work. Ever wonder why no other company has been able to offer MP3 players as good as iPods for the same price or less? Because they need to make profit. Apple's profit margins on the iPod are pretty slim, and they have their hardware and software to cover all of the companies expensive. Other manufacturers like Creative and Rio don't sell anything but MP3 players so they need to actually rake in money with the players, thus the crappier players and higher costs.
Ah wow. I didn't know the profit was rather low. I thought everyone at Apple would be billionairs by now. :p

I don't know whether to purchase the 30 GB Photo or the 30 GB Video.

The things that hold me back from purchasing the Video are:

    1. Battery Life
    2. Delay between songs is bigger
    3. I've heard that regular videos (downloaded or ripped videos) don't work on the video.

the battery life is actually excellent....it's only down when playing video. it lasts about 2 - 3 hours, but that's about the same as a PSP.

I've had no delay between songs yet...if there is any, it's almost nothing.

You can play regular videos. You have to convert them. Many people are already working on it. I've got a few programs that i'm testing out. You may can just got the easiest way and get Quicktime Pro. You can convert with just one click.

You'd think that but then if you think about it they're using all of the money to make even more iPods and also all of their other products as well as their computers. They're not like Microsoft where they've got a bottomless wallet.

In my opinion Apple's the largest "independent" company in the world. I think that makes sense at least.

Try Reanimation. See if you notice a difference between the CD and the songs on the iPod when listening to the transition between Pts.Of.Athrty and Enth E Nd
