I don't want to make a new topic since we already have a TMV thread. But a tracklisting has been announced for the upcoming album Amputechture. 1. VICARIOUS ATONEMENT 2. TETRAGRAMMATON 3. VERMICIDE 4. MECCAMPUTECHTURE 5. ASILOS MAGDALENA 6. VISCERA EYES 7. DAY OF THE BAPHOMETS 8. EL CIERVO VULNERADO Lee (Theory) of the Comatorium has confirmed this. Track eight looks like we might get hispanic songs a la L'Via. Which makes me extremly happy. I'll add a word guide in a new post. :]
01. VICARIOUS ATONEMENT This is still up for grabs, but I fond a very interesting site with some interesting stuff here. 02. TETRAGRAMMATON This is a hewbrew god. Which makes sense since a lot of The Mars Volta latest shirts have a hewbrew context to it.Wikipedia link. 03. VERMICIDE Something used to kill off worms. 04. MECCAMPUTECHTURE A transformer, robot in disguise? All I know is that the album title will be linked to this and that the album title's meaning has something that can be increased. 05. ASILOS MAGDALENA Asilos means asylum in spanish. It was a home for "fallen" women. Wikipedia link 06. VISCERA EYES Unknown. 07. DAY OF THE BAPHOMETS Baphomets are idols depicting something of heritical worship. Wikipeida article has more details. 08. EL CIERVO VULNERADO This means The Harmed Red Deer in spanish.
Haha how often do you have 2 albums in the same year with the word Vicarious in the song title, let alone the first song? On a serious note, this is shaping up to be sweet.
I cannot wait for this album, i'm hoping for less ambient noise though and more straight out music like on de-loused. Nevertheless Frances was awesome and i'm sure this will be too.
Storm won't be doing the artwork, but Jeff Jordan will be doing it, and he's artwork is amazing. Also, a DVD will be released chronicling the band's history and will contain a interview that answers questions answered by the fans. The DVD will also be directed by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.
I sense a religious theme here too. A hebrew god, "mecca" inserted in the 4th track title, the 5th track's title roughly translates to Magdalena's "Asylum", and the 7th track is about Baphomets who were heretics according to Franny. REALLY wierd titles, but I am even more excited about new music now!
When I bought one of my Mars Volta t-shirts, I read something about its hebrew meanings and it had to do with Tetragrammation, which apparently is a word for "god" in Hebrew, so you're probably right.
Wow, his artwork is amazing indeed! It really seems to suit their music. I'm really looking forward to this album too. They're amazing musicians.
I think its just the glasses/dark skin/curly hair. Their faces don't really look the same though. haha I thought that though when I first saw them. Also, MTV said that Amputechture is supposed to be released on August 15th, and I sort of believe it, except that there hasn't been any confirmation from TMV or their record label.
what do you all think of Asilos Magdalena? i personally think it's a good song, despite not being able to understand the lyrics. Cedric's vocals are very beautiful. it's just not something that i expected. which i guess is the only thing to expect with Mars Volta - something you don't expect.
I can't find a god damn torrent anywhere. Or did you find it somewhere else? It's burning me up inside, I need this song!!
It's a good song, but it definitely feels like something is missing. It feels to me that the whole song is building up to the next song. It's just not as epic and grand as most Mars Volta songs. But maybe that's what they were going for.
Knowing how TMV albums work you'd need to hear the whole thing to hear how it meshes with the rest of the songs so I wouldn't worry about that. I love this track though because just when you think TMV is gonna have this complex, fiery, crazy song they come out with a passionate mellow song sung in Spanish. Its a great testament to their creativity and artistic vision.
Right. The album as a full work will be a lot better than a random track taken near the end of the record, I would imagine. But yeah, I think how you described "complex, fiery, crazy" is what I expected, and it took me by shock. I've listened to it a few more times and it's growing on me.
