NEW NIN INCOMING HYPE LEVELS AT MAXIMUM http://consequenceofsound.net/2016/08/nine-inch-nails-appear-set-to-release-new-single-in-september/
Yeah, I really didn't believe that Trent would name a song "Dive and Slam" unless he was high or delirious out of his fucking mind.
PR has come out and said the listing was fake, which begs the question "How the hell does one get a FAKE entry into the ASCAP database? That's like the most reliable music database in the world."
A Minute to Breathe, a new song by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for the upcoming film Before the Flood.
http://kroq.cbslocal.com/2016/12/16/nine-inch-nails-not-the-actual-events/ Hyyyyyype. Especially intrigued by the "unfriendly, fairly impenetrable" part. If I were to use that to describe a NIN song, I'd think "The Great Destroyer".
Was listening to Pretty Hate Machine and Downward Spiral last night, just to refresh. I used to really dislike PHM but my perception of it has changed a lot. I can sense that Trent was trying to find some common ground between pop music and experimental electronic sounds. There is a lot of really clear Prince influence on the album. Downward Spiral is disturbing to listen to now. I never used to look at it like that as a teenager. The album seems less personal to me now and more of a statement about civilization vs the individual. The album became disturbing with the progression of today's social climate and how the world has changed since it was released/created (1994?)
Still need to listen to the new EP, but it and the vinyl reissues they're doing for the NIN back catalog have really reignited my interest in Trent Reznor's music. A few years ago, I started to really get into NIN, but for whatever reason at one point decided I didn't like the music anymore, and sold all the NIN CDs I had, including the All That Could Have Been live album that had Still (an idiot move). Even Closer, though it is one of his most well known songs, is insanely good. It has some otherworldy quality about it that I just absolutely adore. I fucking love that The Fragile is finally getting reissued on vinyl. Totally gonna go for that one first.
From my first listen, I'm not that impressed honestly. It is somewhat interesting how I can spot traits of several (if not all) past albums but at the same time it feels like a rehash of past ideas. I was really digging Burning Bright when that was released but somehow the EP made me like it less
Trent Reznor has confirmed "two new major works" for 2017. http://pitchfork.com/news/70576-nine-inch-nails-to-release-two-new-major-works-in-2017/
I like it so far. On my first listen. It's better than most of the songs on Hesitation Marks. It doesn't sound as digitized and Maschine-based as that album. There's something tribal about a lot of the music on this EP. I also like the (I think) references to his film scores, like Social Network, when it comes to the electronic instruments.
This EP is like Hesitation Marks and The Slip having sex on a starry night, but The Slip comes too early, leaving HM fussing the rest of the while, and at the same time there's some weird old guy knocking on the front door, asking for leftover food.
Just pre-ordered those vinyl definitive editions of Broken, The Downward Spiral, and The Fragile. #NoRegrets Probably gonna order a copy of The Fragile: Deviations 1 when I get paid next week. Really hope they won't have sold out by then.
