I am always interested in receiving information about how to create and synthesize Roads Untraveled, so beautiful song, my favorite from Living Things!
The term "acoustic" is rarely taken in the literal sense anymore. It doesn't sound like a real cello to me.
Hey guys, I'm bumping this thread cause it's too interesting not to! Does anyone know what the synth sound in Shadow of the Day is at like :59? It's an airy lead sound that comes in throughout the song. I feel like it's a simple preset, but I don't know where it comes from. It's also in the Phendrana Drifts theme song from Metroid Prime throughout, but mainly at this point: Maybe Mike played Metroid and wanted that noise haha, but I'm wondering if anyone knows what it is!
It's also the same sound in the extended intro for no more sorrow I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ58IFxHdHE
Bump. The main scratch sample in My December is the same "dot canada" sample that is used in Kyur4 Th Ich and is found on the Tasty Gas Station Breaks from the Orient vinyl. You can hear it really well in the outro if you know what you're listening for. Thank you, thank you. I'll be available for autographs later. Also, the intro to Not Alone is a reversed piano, and there a few faint scratches that are reversed there too. The outro also uses the reversed piano.
In Tinfoil (and Powerless), okay I'm not even gonna try to explain the sound cause I'll sound stupid, but it's basically the only thing heard all throughout Tinfoil that isn't the piano and drums.
Maybe you mean the violin-like sound playing a melody in the song? I think it's similar to the sound in the verses for "Waiting for the End". I think it's Mike tremolo picking through reverb and some weird filter
Yeah it is guitar, its in astat's guitar tab. Heres what he calls it Guitar 1 - Db Ab Db Gb Bb Eb (Semi-distorted w/delay, reverb, and octave up effect) http://lplive.net/astat/Guitar_tabs/Living_Things/12 - Powerless.txt
Yeah, the trilling sort sound in Tinfoil/Powerless that sounds like it could be some high-pitched strings is a guitar. The octaver is what gets it so high-pitched, and the delay and reverb gives it that full sound that blends the notes together to sound almost like vibrato on a strings instrument as opposed to tremolo-picked guitar. As tovtov mentioned, they used the same sort of sound on Waiting for the End. It's the only thing playing when Chester first sings in WftE.
Glad to see these thread is open again. I wanna know what kind of synth is playing in Final Masquerade?
That's not really so distinctive that you can pick out the instrument, unfortunately, but the chords are basically a pad with some overdrive and filtering
