I've only read a few of the books. It should be noted that from the perspective of someone who hasn't read the book (the 6th movie for example), they're great movies.
People take the Harry Potter book > movie translation waaaayyy too seriously. The movies are still enjoyable, even if they fucked up your favourite character/part/whatever. The third movie is eeaaassily the best, and that hardly stayed to the book at all.
Dougas Adams had the right idea when he made a point of making each of the different versions of The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy actually... different. Sometimes they leave out things that probably should be included, but by and large if you want it to be precisely the same as when you read the book, just read the book again. Most of the better recent film adaptations I've seen are the ones that take the most liberties anyway.
I agree. But at the same time it's kind of to be expected from the fans. I've seen Prisoner of Azkaban well over 80 times lol.
I've been with HP since the beginning and I love the films just as much I love the books. What other movie franchise has created such a consistently good series of films? Peter Jackson's LOTR's are the only ones that come to mind. Sure, the HP movies have left out some of our favorite scenes, chapters, and even characters of some of the stories, but I think Steve Kloves (& the dude who did Hp5) has done a wonderful job with all the movie scripts. Turning a 500 page + book into a 2 hour & Half movie isn't an easy thing to do, and yet he somehow managed to create gripping films out of it all. Least not forget, the author herself, Jo, with with him every step of the way, approving the changes and advising him with each one. Seriously, some "fans" in this thread are way too bitchy about the movies. Call them what you want, but you can't deny that all 8 films have been perfectly faithful to all seven books. I've seen DH Part2 and I can safely say they haven't let me down.
To me it doesn't even matter how well they translated the books into movies. I'm just hell of an excited man to see the finale. I just enjoy seeing books turned into live action and seeing everything. But mostly, it's just the fact that this series has been going so long along with the movies and this is truly an epic finale. P.S. Goblet of Fire was by far my favorite adaptation outside of the 2 part finale
I liked the third movie too, haha. Why does it get so much hate? Watch Part 1, it's awesome. I think Part 2 will be the best one of the series, I'm gonna watch it next week!
^ Who better to judge the films' quality? Anyway, I saw Part 2 last night and it was freaking epic. Yates has done a stupendous job on the seventh book's adaptation.
Only if you dress up as that sexy mofo Hagrid. :derek: I'm a pretty big HP nerd. Maybe I'm just wierd.
This pretty much I've read the books several times and the third movie is my favorite out of them all.
The thing about PoA is that it works great as a film. GoF on the other hand was the worst imo. The pacing in that film was horrendous!
I must be in an even slighter minority because I really liked the Goblet of Fire film, but couldn't stand the pacing in OotP, how much they focused on the trivial stuff in HBP and the thorough carving of PoA. That being said, the DH films are the best not only in terms of adaptations but also as objective films.
I'm going to see Harry Potter DH2 tomorrow. I can't wait! I agree with most of you here. It shouldn't matter if they left out some parts from the book. The movies have been wonderful and this last one looks epic!
Casual fans of the books/people who like films definitely. Massive fans of the books are more likely to judge based on how closely the movie followed the book, rather than how the movie stands on its own. That's how I see it anyway. I think by now a lot of the book fans have looked past how different the third movie was in comparison the book, but there was definitely a shitstorm about it when the movie came out.
I really rather enjoyed it, although not as much as part one. The flow of the film was perfect, with perfect balances between tension and the calmer moments. And Emma Watson screaming in the end....it still chills me to the bone.
