What a great interview. I really agree with what Chino was saying around 45 minutes. I love it when guest features are kept secret, so that they can be a suprise when you actually hear it. Like, how cool would it have been if we didn't know that Jerry Cantrell was going to do a solo? The dude's a fucking beast on the guitar.
"Doomed User" to be released on Wednesday. http://www.upsetmagazine.com/read/deftones-to-release-new-track-later-this-week/ EDIT: Here it is: http://blog.siriusxm.com/2016/03/16/deftones-world-premiere-of-new-song-doomed-user-on-octane/
I was hoping this album was gonna sound similar to how Smile sounded. I think I'm going to be disappointed. P.S. I didn't like the song
Too br00000tal for Brady it seems. If you like Smile so much, you might wanna check out Chino's side-project, Crosses.
I saw them live this past Sunday. Fucking amazing as usual. Started the set off with Rocket Skates and it never calmed down. Played both of the new tracks as well, and they translate really well live.
There is a snippet of Hearts/Wires floating around on internet. Chino himself shared it at the end of a 30 min playlist, via twitter. And holy shit, does that shit sound good. Very moody, and dark. I'd swear I'd hear some almost Pink Floydish guitar vibe. If it's any indication of the album to come, then I'm now really excited.
That sounds tasty. Both first tracks released so far were quite good, but those 2 snippet got me way more hyped
Tracks "Gore", "Phantom Bride", and "Acid Hologram" have leaked. Not sure how I feel about them yet. Definitely different from "Diamond Eyes" and "Koi No Yokan".
Promo for this album has been strangely low-key. I really keep forgetting that it's gonna drop in just a couple of days
Apparently, full album leaked. EDIT: ok, heard it. Fuck. Prayers/Triangle and Doomed User feel lackluster now. Because that record.... Damn. Really different from them. Some of the stuff here sounds more like their covers on the "B-Side and rarities" album than like proper Deftones tracks. It's probably their most experimental record yet. Some serious 80's influence. One track almost had some kind of Cocteau Twins melody. This will take time to fully get into it.
I like the new singles. Haven't listened to the leak. Their music has always been cinematic, but the new music is especially majestic, violent, and dreamy. It almost sounds mythical, from my own weird perspective.
Whenever a new Dtones album drops or leaks, I like to visit Sharing Lungs to read the reaction posts because it's always stuff like this. Gets me excited to hear the new stuff at a time when I'm not that excited.
I appreciate that. I've never heard of Sharing Lungs. This album cycle has been pretty cryptic. There's honestly almost no info about it besides a named guest artist and some vague descriptions of what it sounds like. But I really love the new songs they've released. I can't wait to hear the full album.
While I liked P/T and Doomed User, they almost feel like fillers on the record, along with 1 or 2 other trakcs. But it all flows so well together that it doesn't matter. Chino recorded vocals for the album in the exact order of the tracklist (which he had in one big 48 min MP3 file), and you can definitely feel it. Gore makes for a great cohesive experience.
