Sorry to double post, but rumor has it The Dark Knight has broken the records of highest-grossing midnight showing and opening day ticket sales ever (set by 2007's Spiderman 3). Friday's total domestic gross reportedly lingered around $66 million, along with an additional $18 million from Thursday midnight till dawn, putting TDK on track to crush Spiderman 3 as the highest-grossing opening weekend ever. If you haven't seen it yet, go out and support tomorrow, because Sundays tend to be slower at the box office. The Dark Knight is currently listed as the #1 film of all time at IMDb ('bout time someone knocked The Godfather out of its place).
Have any other recent films ever been top? By recent I guess I mean the past five years or so. Since I started using that site I can only remember it being The Godfather. Still, even if it is right after release, that's no mean feat considering how fickle a lot of the raters there are.
Wall-E climbed to #4 very early, but was in the twenties the last time I checked. So yeah, The Dark Knight? Ummm.....one of the best films I've ever seen? Yes. Only every once in a while does a movie feature a character where you're absolutely mesmerized by him/her every single time they're on the screen. Heath Ledger's death aside and out of the equation: he did a phenomenal job squeezing every bit of crazy/strangeness out of The Joker without it being over the top. Just incredible.
In my experience, the more people that see it, the lower the score will go. However, even if most people average an 8 or 9, the film will likely remain in the top 30. Saw it again last night, and fell in love with it this time.
With all this excitement and hype, I have still have not seen it. All the people I want to go with or want to go with me Lag out at the last minute. Seeing a movie by myself just seems out of place for me. So it is Sunday and have not seen this amazing movie.
Well, depending on where you live, that may be a good thing. The lines to get into the theater in our area have been staggering. People are showing up 1+ hour before start time. I'm guessing it's like that in Fresno, too. But do yourself a favor, and stay away from the tvs spots, message boards, etc. They'll spoil the film for you. With that said, I'm gonna go watch the HBO first look now!
Every single IMAX show was sold out until Tuesday when I went to the nearest IMAX yesterday. The theatre I saw it in today was sold out.
If anyone has seen it in IMAX, what's the difference? I know the resolution is greater and all, but do things 'pop out' on the screen? If so, what? Do you have to wear special glasses? Is their some lag time while they change from IMAX to film and vice versa?
Not that anyone is wondering, but here's a shot of Bale standing miles up over Hong Kong, as he had said in an interview. Click here.
No special accessories required. Resolution is awesome-o. There are speakers BEHIND the screen, as well as on the sides of the walls and on the top right and left hand corners of the room; totally amplifying every 'boom', and other sound effects within the movie. Mainly the overhead views of city scenes, are the only scenes that seem to 'pop out' at you. It's absolutely amazing though; the very first scene of the movie basically forced me to immerse into the visuals, it felt as if I was flying towards the building slowly (lol).
I'm fairly liberal with the words "amazing" and "fantastic" but I think I'm justified in using them to describe The Dark Knight. I loved Batman Begins—it's one of my all-time favorite movies. But The Dark Knight was so much better it's almost unbelievable. As I said in "Random Thoughts" a couple days ago, this is my only gripe with the movie: Two-Face's death. He should've been kept for at least a part of the next film, because his death was very anti-climactic, in my opinion.
Reply: Then you'll be happy to know that he may make an appearance in the third one. Notice that neither Rachel nor Dent are actually pronounced dead. However, I think Nolan would be smarter than to pull a cheap parlor trick like that. But Aaron Eckhart recently said he'd be happy to re-visit the character.
I think it's safe to say Rachel's dead. If not, we'll need some ridiculous explanation as to how she got out of it. I could see Two-Face still being alive, though.
So... Anybody got the script yet? It's pissing me off because it went on sale a few days ago, so someone should have posted online by now lol.
I decided to finally watch it last night. It was really good but I think I might actually have preferred Batman Begins... there's not a lot in it, for me, anyway. It's a good example of what Spider-Man 3 could have been as well. Heath Ledger's performance was good, and he did steal the scenes he was in, but I think Gary Oldman was as good as most of the actors in both films and I think it's testament to how versatile he is as an actor that he can play characters such as Gordon as he was portrayed in these films, Drexl from True Romance, Sirius Black and Sid Vicious, amongst others, equally well. He has to play Ocelot in the MGS film. The Dark Knight makes my top three films released so far this year but I still rate In Bruges and Son Of Rambow more highly, and I'll probably get flamed for this but Crystal Skull isn't far behind either.
