It was meh. With it being a pre-recorded peformance, it didn't turn out too well IMO. They also got completely outshined by Bruno Mars and Beyonce. Chris Martin for some reason was just not hitting the notes that well.
Yeah, it was more about Beyonce and Bruno Mars in the end than it was about Coldplay - but they did a really nice tribute at the end to past Super Bowl halftime performers, especially those who had passed away, and it was really beautiful.
Can't wait to see their tour. I'll just be watching pro shot videos as usual, but Coldplay's tours are always one of the best sounding ones, imo. I can never figure out how they get the sound for Jonny, which is always really incredible.
I can't wait until this song becomes overplayed in radio. (pretty eh performance tho lol)
So ICYMI the new tour has started, and it's a doozy. So far the average setlist is: 1. A Head Full of Dreams (w/ O mio babbino caro & The Great Dictator intro) 2. Yellow 3. Every Teardrop is a Waterfall 4. The Scientist 5. Birds (w/ "Oceans" intro) 6. Paradise (w/ Tiesto remix outro) B-stage 7. Everglow 8. Magic 9. (rotating song) 10. Clocks (sometimes "Politik") 11. Midnight (partial) 12. Charlie Brown 13. Hymn for the Weekend 14. Fix You ("Midnight" background instead of the organ) 15. Heroes (David Bowie cover) 16. Viva la Vida 17. Adventure of a Lifetime C-stage 18. Kaleidoscope 19. (Fan request: people can request a song through instagram video and whatever vid the band chooses will be played) 20. (acoustic song) Encore: 21. Amazing Day 22. A Sky Full of Stars 23. Up&Up Songs rotated for B-stage: Army of One (most played one) God Put a Smile Upon Your Face Ink Princess of China Fan requests: Green Eyes Shiver Don't Panic In My Place Speed of Sound A Message The Hardest Part Acoustic songs rotated: Army of One (not acoustic though, transitions from Kaleidoscope) Us Against the World (most played one) Parachutes Shiver Trouble Til Kingdom Come See You Soon Johnny B. Goode (Chuck Berry cover) Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash cover)
I sometimes get sick of Chris' falsetto, since he uses it so much. But I've come to realize, I can't fault him for it. Everyone has their own personal approach to making music. So with that in mind, I think the falsetto bridge in "Army of One" is really pretty.
I think it's too pretty to the point he can't sing it that well live. The live version's pretty gorgeous but he can't seem to nail the high note (or he avoids it altogether), probably because the first few shows of the tour have been pretty off days for Chris. It's probably reason why they kinda dropped it from their shows lately. This is the song with "Kaleidoscope" and him trying to reach the high note. This is him almost ignoring it until the last note. It'd be a difficult for anyone to sustain that line in a live performance. Especially, when you're as physically energetic as Chris. I think he sounded the best during the Ghost Stories era but that has a lot to do with the band not really playing live much, so Chris' voice got a lot of rest and recovery. To me, the only song he ever consistently had trouble singing live was "Viva la Vida" (but then again, I hate that song ). Don't kill me for not liking the song.

They cut parts of Noel Gallagher's guitar solo, parts of the 2nd verse, Jonny's guitar parts towards the end, and the "believe in love" outro. They filmed the music video during their stops in Mexico. Kinda makes sense since they've been performing it a lot of TV shows lately. https://www.facebook.com/coldplay/posts/10156887190765253 Also, for some reason, "Hymn for the Weekend" is only being released to US radio in a few days.
I would like to hear "Square One" and "Don't Let it Break Your Heart" live again. Don't know if they ever did DLIBYH live though.
They played DLIBYH in almost all MX shows. It just isn't obvious cuz it wasn't in the audio of the live 2012 album (if they included all the songs in the set, Scientist, DLIBYH, Violet Hill (these 3 were in the DVD tho) Lovers in Japan, Warning Sign and Speed of Sound would be there)
Ok got you. The only performances I really saw from the MX era were festival ones. I watched videos of them playing at T in the Park and Rock in Rio - DLIBYH wasn't played at either of those shows. I think I watched the Live DVD too once, where they brought out Rihanna? Song wasn't played there either. To be honest, I mostly watch the shows to hear how Jonny's guitar sounds but they are a pretty great live band.
ICYMI Chris Martin performed this song live alongside "Fix You" and Prince's "Raspberry Beret". It's first time "Twisted Logic" has been performed live.
Official Up&Up video out now HOLY CRAP THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING
I think this is probably top 5 videos for me. It's like a much better version of What I've Done with some awesome artistic elements
