Meh, I'm also disappointed with the bonus tracks as well. Once again I find them forgettable, the second half of All Your Friends is decent though. This album just really isn't for me. Oh well, I'll try again with their next album.
Probably wasn't their intention to have a title track in the first place. Both "All Your Friends" and "Ghost Story" seem so radically different sonically and lyrically from Ghost Stories that it probably was never really considered for the final album, but rather they just borrowed the name because it sounded cool.
HEY GUYS [THUMB]http://i.imgur.com/i6P45Wx.jpg[/THUMB] EDIT: Before a smartass realizes I misspelled ''beautiful''.
Dat Vinyl. (at least it looks like vinyl, I really don't know how big that paper is, I'm probably wrong)
How butthurt do you have to be to write a review like that? It's just one album, dude. Calm the *fuck* down.
I'm assuming it was mostly for entertainment. It's pretty hard to actually be serious when you say stuff like "Chris wonders if he himself is “just a ghost”. Tell you what, Martin, you woeful f***ing waste of a snail’s time, here’s one way of f***ing finding out - why not run into that f***ing brick wall head first? Twenty times, just to be f***ing sure?"
Getting better with each listen. ''O'' is an incredible closer. I would bet ''Ghost Story'' comes from the Viva era. It's just not 2013/2014 Coldplay mindset. -
Haha idk, ridiculous "review" either way. - So I'll do my ratings for the album: Always In My Head - 9/10 Magic - 7/10 Ink - 8.5/10 True Love - 7.5/10 Midnight - 10/10 Another's Arms - 7.5/10 Oceans - 6.5/10 A Sky Full Of Stars - 8/10 O - 10/10 All Your Friends - 9/10 Ghost Story - 8.5/10 O (Reprise) - 7.5/10 Ghost Stories - 7.5/10
That's hands down the funniest review I've ever read, and I might have to agree with some of it. What gold of a review.
That's what I was theorizing. It just reminded me so much of Viva. ______________________________ Preview of "Magic" from the Ghost Stories film!
Per request of the almighty Gibleson, whom I like most of the time, when he's not shitting on BMTH and ID, the full, track by track review of Ghost Stories! Always in my Head - The first time I heard this, back in March, I was a bit disappointed with this calm opener, having expected something like Politik, as the album was described as similar to AROBTTH. However, with each listen, the track kept getting better. The guitar parts are what I love the most about this track, along with the vocal performance. Also one of the best drum patterns on the album. Magic - Not much to say, a very enjoyable track for me since the first listen. Ink - Blew me away on the first listen, and kept getting better with each additional listen. One of the best things about this album is that these poppy/radio ready tracks are just as amazing as for example Midnight. Such a great synth, chorus... Just another classic Coldplay track. True Love - Catchy. I don't understand why it took Timbaland to do these drums, when Will's done stuff like In My Place, but whatever. The guitar solo felt spot on from first listen. Works very well after Ink, lyrically, and will definitely be one of the most interesting tracks to hear live. Midnight - Remains my favorite track on the album, can't think of the last time a song's made such an impact on me. Another's Arms - While remaining enjoyable, it's honestly the weakest on the album. An enjoyable sample and good lyrics, but not much beside that. Also I feel like it's one of the only tracks that suffers from bad mixing. Oceans - Is it just me or is the album version faster than the live version? Regardless, not much has changed from the live performance beside that. Feels Parachutes-esque and works well with the rest of the album. The short instrumental after the track works well as an intro to ASFoS. Without it it would be a very rough transition. Loving the ocean and church sounds at the end. A Sky Full of Stars - To me, a very enjoyable track. But why it was put here confuses me. Lyrically and sonically it belongs between Magic and Ink. It messes up the flow of the album and the feeling like the album has a plot. But whatever. We've heard it before the rest so it wasn't that much of a shock. A radio single, and soon to be a successful one, too. O - Now here's that Coldplay we need. The lyrical highlight of the album, and the logical closer. The track feels hopeful, yet it remains dark. I think this might be my favorite Coldplay piano track. It's just that good. ''Maybe one day I'll fly next to you'', and the way his voice cracks upon saying ''next'' is just beautiful. If it wasn't for Amsterdam, it might would have been the best album closer. Amazing track. All Your Friends - These bonus tracks are not something I'll cry about not getting. It's enjoyable, and vocally one of the strongest points of the era, but feels like it lacks something. Beautiful ending though. Ghost Story - Really reminds me of the Viva era, sounds like it could've been on Prospekt's March at least. Great chorus, loved the energy of the track itself. Lyrically awesome, and the concept of being a ghost just adds to 42, which then leads to Viva again. Grew on me with more listens. O (Reprise) - Unnecessary. All in all, Ghost Stories is on Coldplay's level. It feels like a good step for the band, however isn't my favorite album from them. But that's hard to expect knowing this is the band that made Viva, A Rush, Parachutes and Mylo. Damnit that's almost all of them. Oh, the booklet disappointed me a bit, but the slip case makes up for it. CD looks beautiful.
A behind the scenes look at the Ghost Stories film, to be broadcast on NBC tomorrow. I just can't get over how beautiful A Sky Full of Stars is. According to the tracking information, my copy of Ghost Stories just arrived in my city, WHOOP WHOOP! Hopefully this means that it will come in on Monday, and not the estimated date of Thursday.
Ok, I take it back. I really like the 2 bonus tracks, they really grew on me and I find them better than anything on the album except O. Which is a relief since I thought I was only going to like two of the new songs and end up waiting a year or more for more songs that I might or might not like. It's still a bit disappointing though that I don't have many new tracks to like. Just Ghost Story, All Your Friends, O, and Midnight. Another's Arms and Magic are ok too, and Oceans is growing on me a bit. The rest I don't really care for.
