First listen was hard to get through, but the second (which I did earlier today), was very easy and enjoyable to make through. Definately my top album of the year as it stands currently.

I got it yesterday, and I've listened to it 3 times so far. It definitely gets better upon further listens. It was a bit of a sensory overload the first time through. I was a bit disappointed at first, feeling that they tried to fit too much into these songs, but I don't feel that way now. This album gets 2008 off to an amazing start.

Agadez is fucking intense. The ending especially.

The house is empty today so I'm blasting it. It's gonna be hard to top this album for best of 2008.

Same thing happened in 2005 when Frances The Mute came out so early. I think the reason I joined this forum, was to talk about FTM.

I'm currently loving: The ending to Wax Simuclara/the beginning of Goliath. I absolutely love songs that flow into each other, and this whole album does it. Mmmmm. Also, the "Because"(s) by Henry Trejo and the entirety of Agadez. Such a bad-ass song.

And some other shit that I can't even properly explain. So, anyway, favorite lyrics everybody?

"plans have forgotten me ninety-nine times"
"my time is riding in the alphabet"
"if you could see where i've been / you'd touch the hand that's touching sin"
"follow me tonight / follow me into oblivion"
"i need something made of freewill"
i gotta rid this world of your intention / swap the corpse in the casket"
"and when you pray for an end to this / i do believe this is eternity"
"i'm starting to feel a miscarriage coming on"
"i'm all out of pulse, but i know you can resuscitate me"
"if i choose to disolve in you / there's so much we can lose"
"you better not talk if you came here for semantics / it's only a matter of time and space before i become your epidemic"
"heaven's made a cesspool of us all"
"i've got a pain inside that will rip through the very fabric of time"
"where am i now that the music has faded?"

    I'm a sucker for Cedric's lyrics, obviously.

    "There is no miracle
    I lost your miracle"

    ----------
"Let me keep you as a favor"
    ----------
    "Time is a plague
There’s no time for this place
If you don’t let me go –
Heaven’s made a cesspool of us all"

Are just some of my favourites.

meh, fuck the Comatorium's lyric index of the album, I gots the booklet, yo. :p

Also, I've stumbled upon one of the internet's best and worst fanboy idea on the Comatorium: rearranging the tracklist. I'm attempting one right now. It's pretty cool so far.

I don't think i'd change the tracklist at all. I like how it flows.

Only thing I don't like about it is all the other albums started sort of seductively. This one gets its cock straight out.

In any case, it's still fecking amazing. Askepios is so fucking epic. I love the mood Omar creates with his guitar. Fantastic.

I'm a tradionalist Mars Volta fan. Every one of their albums should start out soft and slow, and progressively rock my balls off. This alternative tracklisting does that. It only switches a few songs, but it's good shit.

Yea I agree on that. The album should "progressively rock my balls off", not just punch you straight in the nose from the moment you pop in the CD.

What've you got first in this alternate list?

I just listened to Son et Lumiere and Cygnus. I could sit around with that soft guitar at the start playing for hours on end. Beautiful. I always forget how incredible Frances is.

    "Soothsayer" opening. It's quite awesome.

When I have money I'm going to buy all their studio albums. I'm ashamed that the only release of theirs that I actually own is Scabdates, haha.

Man this whole 'Soothsayer' thing has got me a in a nut.

People from the Comatorium saying bad luck has struck them and all this shite. I respect Omar and Cedric as both people and musicians, but is it possible they're on crack 24/7?

I can't find myself believing this at all.
