Yeah, it's an inherently ridiculous universe, so obviously not all of it is going to be true to real life and real science anyway. You can pick holes in the webshooters either way, for me it just comes down to a) his webbing coming from a mechanical device he created and not his body is a potential plot device in itself. and b) if he created them himself, no matter how far-fetched it is, it underlines Peter's intelligence which is an important part of the character. This thread makes me feel like such a geek.
I like it. Question though, marvel has absolutely no hand in the making of this movie? So, there will not be the Marvel comics intro? haha
I think the reason they made the web actually from him and not the mechanical device is 'cause they didn't wanna deal with the ultimate flaw of those shooters from the comics: when they run out For some reason, though, I thought only female spiders spun webs
Umm...I always thought that Spidey naturally could shoot webs due to transforming from the spider bite? Perhaps I'm missing something. *edit* Stupid Sam Raimi. Sure enough in the original comics it was an invention. Raimi made it into something organic, this new music is returning it back to the original idea.
He did have organic webs for a while to coincide with Sam Raimi's films, but then they went back to shooters. They're what he originally had.
Well organic goes better with the whole "spider bite" mythology of the Spiderman series, but as someone pointed out above, making his own shows the character's intelligence and also adds tension/humor when the webshooters clog up during a fight.
Marvel have a hand in it (probably more in a consultation type role) but no real final say. It's Sony that's driving this, they bought the film rights to Spider-Man in, I think, 1999. The reason Marvel can do this "cross-pollination-of-characters" thing with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America & Hulk (like Downey Jr's Tony Stark turning up in The Incredible Hulk) is because they own the rights to those characters, either because they never sold them or because whatever studio bought them didn't do anything with them within a certain timeframe so the contract expired & rights automatically reverted back to Marvel. That's why you won't see Spider-Man pop up in the Avengers movies, even though he's a Marvel character. Likewise for the X-Men & Fantastic Four film properties, which are owned by Fox. Marvel would be open for a lawsuit if they so much as mention "Spider-Man" or "Wolverine" in their movies. So as long as Sony and Fox keep producing Spider-Man & X-Men movies every few years they keep the rights.
A really shitty/blurry picture from the set was just leaked. There's no way of saying if that's actually Garfield in the suit or a stuntman. From the frontal view, the costume looked alright. But wow, this is horrendous. Better than the old costume? Hell no.
Horrendous is pushing it, especially if it's in comparison with the previous one. Also, apparently that isn't the proper costume.
Although it is a stunt costume, the essential changes are displayed; aside from the missing white on the eyepieces, everything we see is how the suit will appear.
Tbh, my hopes for this movie are slowly depleting with each bit of new info that comes out. First we learn there's probably not going to be any JJ, and then that horrendous costume comes out.
I was looking at this yesterday and couldn't help but think how it reminds me slightly of Spider-Man 2099. I actually don't mind the style of this suit, and I'm not letting this pic shape my view of it. It's definitely an interesting direction, and one they needed to take for the reboot. It's the right move IMO, something different whilst still paying homage to the signature Spidey style. Looking forward to more official shots of the character to better reflect the costume.
