to be honest i think everybody goes through a disrespecting phase and some people don't grow out of it. the only reason i think why teens do that is because they are finally getting a grasp of what freedom tastes like but yet getting angry because they can't have it yet.

eh, i don't think so. yeah, some kids can be disrespectful, but alot of the time it's just adults trying to blame everything on us. what i don't get is when the other generations were teenagers, they were a lot badder then us..our pop culture has just changed alot.

Because they did just as bad if not worse than we did at our age. They know what teens are up to and fear for the worst.

I agree. I mean I don't apply this to all of us. What I mean is... there are a lot of out of control teens and pre-teens out there. Even my parents say they can't believe kids these day. They said when they were kids/teens they would never even consider disrespecting their parents and so on.

I mean, I guess it really depends on where you live, who your friends are and even what your race is. Some of us feel pressured to be like our friends and everbody else, do what they do--even if it's wrong. Sex, drugs, smoking and all that shit are pretty typical things to do amongst us.

The public schools around here are pretty bad. My cousin get's in a lot of trouble all the time. I mean, I guess I'm really fortunate that I go to a Catholic School so I don't have to be around all the problems.

I think people who say teens are disrespectfull are not thinking it thru

    everybody is different

and i'm sure they would've liked the freedom that we now have when they were teens

everybody has been a teen that's the only think you can say everybody is/has been.

sometimes people can do crazy stuff
but that's just cause people before them gave a bad example

that's what i think and who cares about that when your a teen you just want to have fun !!

Meh I am 16 as well.

I'm 18, and I am a perfect little angel............until i get angery, then i'm not such an angel anymore...

I believe that this stereotype is the cause of the disrespect. Adults are losing thier respect for us, and who wants to respect someone that doesn't deserve it, or is an asshole towards you? Who thinks you're worthless or talks down to you?

Face it, not everyone deserves respect.

The only problem I have with teens is school bullies. When I went to school, it was full of kids who took pleasure out of the suffering of others kids who are 'lesser' than them, such as those with mental or physical problems. They didn't have the slightest bit of decency, and racism, homophobia and every other kind of prejudice went rampant. And what's worse is the good kids and even the victims end up being made to believe that it's the only way to get around, and kids bully others just so they can survive in the bullying world. And now they're considered just as bad.

But I suppose that's always been the way, but that still doesnt' make it OK. When I got older, I learnt that harrassing others doesn't do anyone any good, and the world would be lot better place if people didn't do it. The pleasure you get out of the suffering of others isn't worth it.

What people are missing out is that the topic is on teens these days, yet they're giving examples that applied to teens all the time, even adults bully others on an even worse degree.

Scarlet, your parents may or may not have done those things but I bet they knew loads of people their age who did.

What about the whole "sex, drugs and rock n roll" thing that happened a long time ago? What about the "disco age" that happened, people were having sex with people they've never even met in their life? Everybody was going "teens these days" back then too.

What I'm trying to say is that teens were always like this, so I don't get how people are saying "teens these days".

i was at work (i work at mcdonalds) and i was doing everything in drive thru cuz the rest of the people weren't there yet, and i was annoyed. so i took everyone's orders, when this guy comes and SKIPS THE ORDER TAKING SCREEN, which pisses me off anyway cuz there are people behind him, and he says,"can i take my order here?" and i say,"yeah, go right ahead." and he says that i am being DISRESPECTFUL because i said yeah. and tried to threaten me (well i could be some huge mcdonalds ceo and i'm gonna fire your a$$ blah blah blah, to which point i said that is not possible considering that p.o.s. car he is driving and the grimy clothes he is wearing, and he would not tell me what the hell he wanted until i said yes can i help you. at which point i was basically screaming at him, but FINALLY he left.)

anyway the point of this is to make people see that teenagers can be fine until someone sets them off. but i'm sure you all knew that. i kinda just wanted to vent my story to someone.

    i believe teens are misunderstood
ppl who are older tend to forget the feelings of anguish and confusion they had as a teen because most would love to go back to an age where they didnt have the worries or problems they do as they get older.myself personally i would hate to go back to my teens and have to live through those years again getting told to act ur age in one breath n then told that ur still a kid n not old enough in another.
Also as a teen ur hormones are all up in the air which is something adults tend to look upon as ur"moody" or ur "going through an awkward stage" even that ur being "arrogant or obnoxious". I wonder why then the next time in ur life that ur hormones are all askew i.e the mentalpause (oops sorry menopause) for women and the male mid life crisis is it a visit to the G.P or womens clinic for this pill or that treatment, yet we forget teens go through just as big of a hormone upset and have to "just get on with it"
i think we should give teens a break and let them learn on the way to adulthood just like all we chose too

    Speaking of stereotypes...

One day my friend told me a story, his friend was on the bridge by Regent and he was driving right behind a cop, so he safetly matched the cop's speed not to get busted or anything. Anyways, since this is out on a highway, everyone likes to go faster. One older guy speeds (far above the speed limit, apparently), no action from the cop. Next car zooms by, another adult, again, no cop action. Teen (~18-20) drives past, speeding around the same speed as the others, cop immediately puts on his lights and pulls him over.

    Yes, that's a true story. <_<

Yes they have and they shouldn't be allowed to use the internet. The official age for the internet should be at least 16 years old.
