I just realized the irony of this thread.

Straight-edge....I was wondering when a thread about this would come up.

I've looked a lot into the sXe lifestyle, and I have tremendous respect for anyone who really lives it. I technically follow the guidelines, but I don't consider myself straight-edge because I think that it's a choice that shouldn't be taken lightly, and even though I know I'll never do drugs or sleep around, I sometimes wonder--will I drink when I'm legally old enough? Will I have a glass of wine on New Years or at my best friend's wedding?

Just a note to all the people who said "well I guess I'm straight-edge..." It's supposed to be a life commitment, not just something you happen to be. There was a really good quote by Davey Havok about the sXe lifestyle, I'll try and find it after I eat.

I had never heard about Straight Edge before seeing this thread, but since then I have become very very interested in it. Drugs, Sex, and Alcohol are all things that I consider ''sinfull'' to my own self. And it's something that I know that I would want to do for the rest of my life, and it's a commitment that I'd love to make.

But to be considered Straight Edge do you have to like Hardcore bands and such. I really don't like that kind of music, with the exception being AFI. Being sXe is something I want to be.

 

Cigerettes harm you more then weed and they're not illegal.

If you don't drink to get drunk why would you drink? Why not just have a soda then.

 

I disagree with both, Bryan. Weed is something that can ruin your whole life. You begin with weed, move on to heroine etc.etc. However, though smoke can make you die earlier, it is not THAT harmful
About alcohol... well, drinking a bit more can do the difference. You don't need to get drunk to have fun. Plus, 2.5ml of alcohol injected in your vein deirectly cause immediate death. Now imagine drinking a drink containing 40% alcohol, and in large doses.

I don't think you have to be into hardcore to be straight-edge, although it did come from the hardcore/punk scene. Ask around sXe message boards if your unsure

I am very interested in sXe and I think about doing it, but I think I'm too young to make such a huge decision.

 

I'm semi-straight-edge. I respect 3 rules out of 4, and the 3 I respect I really try hard to... As for the 4th (alcool), I have my own "rules" about it.

I wasn't talking about heroin. I was talking about weed itself, and no other. Weed itself is actually not that harmful. To die from it you would have to smoke your own body weight in it, which is impossible.

My opinion about alcohol?

It's hard to explain what i'm saying. Why would you want to drink some form of alcohol(unless it's a few beers, because some people do enjoy the taste) and not plan on getting drunk from it. It would be totally pointless to take 2 shots of vodka and then just stop and not get drunk. Why would you waste your time taking those 2 shots if it won't do anything.(maybe a little buzz)
