Wow, I didn't know that. I don't think the Omega thing means anything, though. And yeah, Tim. That must burn.
I admire him for what he does and how much commitment he has to his sport, not his gold medals. I couldn't care less about all that. After the first one, the novelty of him winning medals wore off for me. But I don't think he won that last race, either. It's pretty clear that he didn't, from watching replays and stuff. (I just did.)
Wtf man. I just watched some Taekwondo with a French and a Korean woman and they were both not attacking, the ref takes off a point but only from the french one. She catches up and in the end they are at the same points, the french kicks and right after the korean one kicks. The korean one wins. I'm telling you, they tell the referees who needs to win before they even start, it was the exact same thing with boxing.
I didnt think Phelps won that one race either, it looked like they touched at the same time but one was under water and one was above the water. I dont know if it was a ratings thing or what to just give it to Phelps but I didnt think he won either. Those Chinese gymnasts piss me off though because they look like they are 10 and so far, theres no proof that they are under 16 so they cant be disqualified.
Well in taekwondo fighters can get some warnings (piongos or however they call them) and then if both fighters are not attacking only the fighter with a warning loses a point. And from what I've seen judges are pretty strict, it has to be a really clear hit otherwise judges won't award a point. Btw I saw on Eurosport today that they proved that the Chinese gymnast that won gold in individual competition is over 16 or whatever is the limit so she keeps her gold.
Okay fine, but what about the end? The french clearly hit the other first and still the korean one wins. It's fucked up.
Yeah, for a point to be awarded two out of four judges have to press their buttons, so they can fix fights pretty easily I guess.
It's also so nice to see that when America plays the refs close their eyes for the faults they make but give them penalties for the funsies. myeah, forget it, I'm pissed off way too easily.
I can tell you that TKD is no longer rigged. You couldn't really say the same about 4-5 years ago, but the Olympic committee did a hard search for this kind of thing back when TKD became an Olympic sport. Being a competitor in the WTF (World Taekwondo Federation), I was quite familiar with the fiasco. There was some money laundering involved with the President, and then all of a sudden officials were at every tournament, from state to nationals. Sure, the process in which the tournaments ran became very slow and ridiculously unwinded, but they're basically as clean as they get. Referees don't score matches. In Olympic-style TKD, there are judges at each corner of the ring, and each one has an electronic controller hooked up to a scoring machine. The red button in one hand, blue in the other. Scores are counted by how many of the judges deem a certain contact to be a point. If I remember correctly, you need three of the judges to have pressed a button within a short time period to count it as a point. So while a kick may seem like, to the camera, a clear kick to the chest guard or helmet, from another angle, namely 2 or 3 of the judges, it might not be very clear. Hence they won't score the point. The judges are supposed to be unbiased. The referee can actually call judges out on this, along with the coaches and other officials. The only other thing that would reserve a point like that would be electronic or judge error, which coaches can argue for with reasonable results. Dusan is correct in that you get warnings for certain fouls before points are deducted. Oh and coming from someone who's been to a National level tournament before, believe me when I say that NOBODY wants Korea to win. They have such a huge advantage over everyone, it's not even funny. One of my old instructors went to Korea to train one time. While running up a mountain, he got outrun by kids half his age. Carrying backpacks full of bricks.
The Cuban dude kicking the official was about the worst incident of the Olympics. What was that guy thinking?
