I used to be straight edge untill I turned 14. I dont smoke and keep the drinking to a minimum pot on the other hand...
For one thing, the only places you draw "crosses" -- and they aren't even crosses, they're Xs -- is on the back of your hand. At punk shows years ago, they used to sell alchoholic beverages, and they wouldn't sell the drinks to minors, obviously. So to tell minors apart from adults, they drew Xs on the backs of the hands of minors so that they knew not to sell them the alchohol. They adapted the Xs on the hands to straight-edge, and that's where you get the X in the middle of sXe. Edit: If I have the whole X story wrong, someone correct it for me.

[/b][/quote] I had to do a big research paper on it, and yeah, that's where the x's came from. The whole idea of straight edge began around 1981 when the punk band Minor Threat created a song called what other than “Straight Edge”. And yeah, it basically referred to how much better a person could be without drugs in their life. And the name straight edge came from one night when the band was drawing a poster for one of their shows - using a wooden ruler - and the drummer realized that the ruler’s straight edge was a metaphor for the straight edge lifestle.
I have friends that smoke pot, and they end up becoming super f*cked up. I'm like that normally (sleepy, groggy, and I dont feel truly awake until like 4:00PM), so if I smoked I probably fall into a coma.
I think we all have to define our own guidlines. Someone who risks addiction/abuse should set himself stricter guidlines, such as the sXe ones. However, I consider myself as someone who knows the limit between fun and abuse, so I allow myself to drink limited doses of alcholic drinks from time to time. Drugs, as I know they are simply no good, are not part of what I allow myself to take. As for sex, when I'll have a girlfriend I'll think about it .
I pretty much hold the values of sXe but I wouldn't proclaim myself as one. I believe that anything can be bad for you if too much is taken/used, even common things like say water. The key is to have nothing in excess, and just be balanced in my opinion. I don't do drugs, but don't have a problem with people that do, as long as they don't hurt anyone else in the process. Drinking, I've done it, but never been drunk, I'm able to control myself before I get to that point. Smoking, don't have a desire to do it. On the sex end, I agree with the values of sXe. By the way didn't know what those 'x's on peoples hands meant until now Saw some people with them at a concert I just went to before reading this thread haha. Now I know.
It’s kind of cool how little things like that turn into something used by people who follow a certain lifestyle, eh?
I’m actually not too sure about that, but I’m sure that they would have wine or something on New Years if they felt like it and things like that. That’s probably the only time I’ll ever drink. I can’t even stand the smell of alchohol.
Im not sxe, but i never had sex, never smoked.. I only get tons of ashes in my longues because of parents And i only drink.. no, i dont
I am sXe, and have been for a few months (almost a half of a year now). I had heard of it, but never knew totally about it until an article about it in Teen People. And that's also how I fell in love with AFI, one of my favorite bands. My dad actually pressured me into drinking, but of course I turned it down. I accidently had weed, but that's because my pothead friend is in cooking class, made me some special brownies, and didn't tell me they were pot brownies until I was halfway done with it. But I do not intentionally try to poison myself. That's what I love about sXe. It attempts to be different from the normal rock and roll scene. And, I'm not sure if it wsa already mentioned, but the X's were actually first used to show that they weren't allowed to drink (you know, like the big x's or the bracelets that the bouncers give underage kids when they go to clubs or concerts that have alcohol). That's why the X is in the sXe. The s and e for straight edge, and the X for the X's on the hand. I shall stop boring you now.
