Stone Temple Pilots With Chester Bennington had an interview and performed an acoustic version of "Black Heart" for KROQ. The interview, which talks about STP's new EP, playing live and Chester's addition to the band, can be read here. The acoustic performance can be viewed below: What do you think of the acoustic version of Black Heart? Let's talk about it in the forums! Source: KROQ
Every vocalist has their moments now and then. And I think at some point the exhaustion had to come because not only does Chester tour with STP but also has been working with Linkin Park. He says the planning is very strict and calculated but it's almost inevitable for him to stress his voice more than usual. Also I read somewhere that he felt sick before a media appearance, not sure if it was this one.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it MIGHT have something to do with the Kevin and Bean show airing from 5-10 AM... They played Pretty Penny too, BTW.
Lol, the mixing. I was in that fanboy maze, trust me, it's not the mixing. This has been recorded deep in the morning, and most of us can barely sing when we wake up in the morning. It's funny how we always blame other things though. No, it's not the mixing, Chester is losing his voice, but what do you expect after 12 years of singing all those hard songs (20+) in livesets for linkin park every day in a tour. 2007 was his best time vocally in my opinion, based on the rock am ring performance, it went downhill from there. I always thought Chester was the 'most amazing' vocalist ever etc. But then I looked at some of Chester's influences, Scott Weiland, Layne Staley, and see how they dont have to yell the lungs out of their body to hit some high notes. It may sound like yelling, but it's not. Also, I love how you and Derek both show my statement was correct.
Like I said before, Chester as a vocalist had his moments here and there. He in japan sounded fucking amazing, and in High Rise he sounds as crisp as ever. Also it seems like the "arrogant" is you instead of other people.
I should've made myself clearer. What I was trying to say was that Chester's singing, whether live or otherwise, is usually heavily effected and, so, a relatively dry recording may well sound inferior to us in comparison.
Please listen to the audio interview. Chester clearly says that last night he was there with the 'boys of Linkin park' and they were making pretty mellow music in which he was screaming his brains out so his voice may sound weak.
I must be the only one who didn't think this was terrible? Yes he was hoarse sounding but he stayed in pitch the majority of the time. Compare this to to Scott Weiland who couldn't even stay in pitch for ONE line of Interstate Love Song last month (yes he still sings songs from the band he was fired from), and I think Chester has a free pass here.
