Songs meanings

Hey, everyone.

I'm new to this board my name's Jamie and this is only my second post in here.
I like to interpret songs, to think of the meaning of each song I hear. What is so great about LP and some of other groups is that songs can be interpreted in a lot of ways. To me listening to LP is like listening to poetry I mean it's not exactly the same thing but the way they write down their emotions, the use they make of words, it's really poetic; People who don't love LP and say it's a group that just likes to yell are the ones that don't pay attention to the lyrics, and mostly because they don't want to.

Anyways, I thought it could be interesting to try each and everyone of us to choose a song or two and just try and explain what we think it's about.

For example, I'm going to try and explain what I think "Crawling" is about because it's one of my fave LP songs.

So for me Crawling is about a person who is being or was the victim of sexual or physical abuse. This person is struggling to find a way to escape the feeling of helplessness and confusion that invades him. He's lost within his own mind, he doesn't know what's real or not. His mind is the only place where he can find shelter and peace but at the same time, he doesn't know how to deal with all this. He feels trapped in a way. These abuses made him feel insecure and not sure of who he is anymore. He sees himself in a mirror and doesn't his face anymore. Anyways the person is traumatized and now every time that someone he loves touches him, it reminds him of how the person who took advantaged of him did and so he takes refuge in his shelter where he feels safe but at the same time he feels lost because he doesn't how to touch or being touched by somebody without feeling a certain fear and repulsion. It's like a vicious circle it can't break out of.

Well, I didn't really write above everything I wanted to say about Crawling because by rereading it I think that I what I said is really stupid.

I just hope that you people won't make fun of me because my English isn't that good. I'm french so please excuse any e,glish I might have made by writing down my thoughts. And please, feel free to post your thoughts on the song, it'd be great to have someone else's opinion.

By the way, I heard that Chester was sexually abused in his youth, could someone please, give more info on it. If he was sexually abused (which let's make it clear is terrible !!) , do you think Crawling is about it?

Okay i'll take part in this! and yes I heard Chester was abused in his youth but not sure on any details surrounding it...poor kid went through drug addictions too!

I'll take Papercut! it's a great song and has lots of meaning withing it. I think this song is about someone who doesn't know how to go through life without always expecting that everyone is out to get them. This person has a conscience that is overly protective and they keep getting this feeling from that voice inside us that we are being watched and that we shouldn't do things because we will get negative attention.

the great thing about poetry is there is never a right or wrong answer...it's left up to the reader to decide! in other words...don't be "that's not the meaning at all!"

 

"Cure For The Itch" is the simplist.

What do you do when you have an itch? You scratch it.

what a great topic. I was thinking of starting it but I forgot. Anyways, the song i'm going to say my meaning is Papercut. Because it relates to me personally.

OK, I think that the meaning of this song is about 2 faces/personalities/feelings that you got. One that you always show and another one hidden deep inside that you would like to get out or get rid off. "But everybody has a face that they hold inside, a face that awakes when they close their eyes."

It relates to me because I have also 2 personalities. When i'm with people, I get to be a completely different person from what I really am. I get shy, nervous and can't do that things that I normally do with the people I really know. And so that personality hidden inside of me, is the one I want to get out. I just want to be myself.

If you guys dont care about my life then dont comment on it. Thanx.

I think chester wuz kidding wen he sed it. i mean, he wuz mollested and he did drugs? u no das prolly a joke or sumthin, jus read the artical again. just an opinion who makes jokes like that
i think that papercut is about having another personality that you're afraid of, something that can hurt others. its like a "face" because it doesn't look like you, and its always alive inside of you, so you're "paranoid" because you don't know when it'll possess you and make you do what you don't want. it feels like "night" today because you don't feel safe, and you're are all dark inside. and you're uptight because you don't know if someone will piss you off and release this darker part of you. that's what i think.
LP PRYDE (or PRIDE wutever)

 

Believe me, I've read about it and I've seen the MTV Story so far doc and he WAS SEXUALLY ABUSED in his childhood and even admitted it, the only thing it doesn't say is who abused him. Because were speculating that it was a member of his family, he clarified the situation by saying that it wasn't.
I don't think he'll have the bad taste to joke on such a heavy matter.

Thank you Todd, I thought like the only to think that it'd be really crazy to lie about being sexually abused !! Why would Chester lie about such a horrible thing !! That's what I replied earlier to the guy who thought that might be a joke.

Anyways, I do think it's really great that he overcame all his problems and became the man that he is today.

Yes., great topic. I think I'll say what I think In The End is all about.

To me this song is about trying to do something, don't know what exactly but it all falls apart so in the end it doesn't really matter at all.
Simple but thats what it think it means to me.

 

i'd say session is about when your girlfriend dumps you so you retaliate. cure for the itch is like a song about getting mad at someone and then telling them to move away. and technique is about commiting suicide because so many bad things happened to you. well, thats about it.

 

Crawling to me sounds like someone who suffers from a low self-image. Which basically means, they feel low about themselves and how they look. Of course, this could be to abuse like in the video or just feeling that way.

"Against my will I stand beside my own reflection"

They both pretty much some it up.

 

"Step Up" is about other Bands, Emcees, etc who think they're better than "Linkin Park" should prove it or stop putting them down..

"Carousel" is about getting over an addiction, saying someone thinks they can get over but they can't and they're just going round in circles like a Carousel. It's also saying your just running away from wanting to get past it..

"Part Of Me" is about something about you or inside of you, you don't like and other people don't like. You've tried your best to deal with it, but just can't handle living with it anymore..

I don't know if these are correct.. But this is what the songs mean to me..

 

Pushing Me Away

Its about lying to someone who you don't want to be with. Maybe its because she's cheating on him and he's sick of it and wants to be pushed away

 

This is what "Papercut" and "Crawling" mean to me:

Papercut: Did you ever feel like having a stupid voice inside of you saying that you can't do anything right and pointing all your mistakes out? I think "Papercut" is about it: someone who can't stand this voice anymore. It always happens to me and that's why I just love this song.

Crawling: I think it's about depression. Definitely it's the worst thing in the world and you just feel like you can't hold on 'cause it's crawling into skin and stealing all your energy.
I was depressed when I heard this song for the first time (actually I watched it ) and, believe me, I start crying 'cause it's exactly what I was feeling that time.

That's what these song mean to me.
