I thought that when I heard ATS for couple of times. But after year of listening Empty Spaces and WJL, I'm sick of it... The album would work perfectly without The Radiance, Empty Spaces, Wisdom and Fallout. But, that's just my opinion. If you don't agree with me, whatever, I don't care.
It's cool, we don't care about your opinion either. I kid, I kid. Mostly. I don't speak for the whole forum. Just me. And all the cool kids.
Uhh...no it's most definitely not. Any instrument can be noisy. Any instrument can be chaotic. Any electronic instrument can be run through a pedal. There's literally no evidence that the pedal in question is even being used in conjunction with a guitar, let alone being used to create a specific guitar sound. The fact that the pedal in question is called a "Synth Mangler" is probably a pretty good indication of what it's being used for...but it's probably best not to start confusing people with silly things like common sense. And as someone already said, the title "Chaos and Noise" is clearly referencing the fact that the knobs on the pedal are also labeled "Chaos" and "Noise." This is just like the what happened with Mike's last Instagram pic (which was titled "Effective" because it was a picture of a board of effects pedals), with people speculating that "Effective" must be a song title from the new album and all kinds of other silliness with no basis in fact.
Thank you for bringing some common sense into here Astat. I swear people look at photos and absolutely overanalyze them sometimes.
I personally wouldn't mind interludes like Jornada del Muerto being used in future albums. I don't think instrumentals like that would otherwise be possible in a long full length song and interludes allow us to hear something that could otherwise not be represented. I also would like to add that I wouldn't mind extended intros being placed directly into the album as interludes. Stuff like NMS or New Divide have these great intros that are only seen live. It'd be interesting to hear extended intros-interludes in an album to build up the intensity
I would like an LPU CD that has studio versions of songs with extented intros. I think that would kick some ass!
Gotta agree with the others... The presence of a guitar/distortion pedal does not necessarily mean that heavy guitars are being used. I mean, they could be heavy guitars getting looped and made into stuff like Blackout, W&K, even WFTE. Actually, I used to be one of the crowd that wanted the heavy guitars back, but unless LP really decides to spend a LOT of time on riffs, I think they should just go with what they did on ATS where the guitar serves more for atmospherics to build on the samples/keys/etc. I liked a lot of the riffs on HT and Meteora at the time, but they wouldn't work with the current themes of their music. Those old riffs are so "angsty." And the riffs in songs like Given Up and NMS ended up sounding stale, didn't they? Or maybe I'm the only one who thought so? I doubt it. They shouldn't push themselves to utilize such guitars unless they really help the song or make it unique. I personally wouldn't want to listen to another Given Up. The song sounds so forced to me. That's my two cents.
I agree mostly with that. Unless they really bring in more iconic riff parts to the stage (e.g A place for my head) then it wouldn't sound original. What they did on ATS was an innovative idea. Given Up & NMS guitar parts were cool, but not anything special. the Best thing about NMS is the Ebow part IMO.
It amuses me that just because people see noise and chaos they automatically assume it means heavy metal is back. Hasn't anybody ever heard a NIN song (preferably Trent's much older stuff), or even "Hardcore" music (and its subgenres)? Those songs are harder than nu-metal and a good portion of those don't even have guitars (and if they do, they're distorted to the point of nonrecognition). Linkin Park can make just as much chaos with a synth, as they could with a stratocaster. Believe me.
The name of the pedal dosn't mean anything. Sure any instument can be put through a pedal but it's GUITAR pedal so that's what I'M guessing it's for. And I'm not overanalyzing, I'm just speculating. Do we really have to get into huge arguments over a Twitter post? I like to believe what I think it's for and I don't understand why people have to bite my head off when I like to speculate. If I was stating that I this is proof of the return of the nu-metal, then why would I ask you for your thoughts? People these days... *EDIT* BTW Why would they post a picture of this heavy sounding guitar pedal? They wouldn't just snap a photo of any effects pedal they had laying around. They are toying with us I swear...
Because you submitted your thoughts on a discussion forum, meaning you opened your opinions/thoughts for discussion by doing so. With all due respect, while I greatly appreciate your views and opinions, acting all holier than thou by claiming you didn't "ask us for our thoughts" is a really bad attitude. You give off negativity in your responses, so people are responding with the same thing. It's not a personal attack from anyone here. But you really shouldn't be giving opinions on a message board if you don't want people to comment on them. You're in the totally wrong place if you don't care about other people's opinions, because we don't only welcome opinions (and counter opinions) here, we encourage them.
