Those three songs you named are the only ones I can really listen to for over a minute on that CD

Like Machina was pretty 'meh' to me, they had only two good songs on that album Stand Inside Your Love and The Everlasting Gaze. Gish is pretty awesome for it being their first album with some damn good songs on it. But Pisces Iscariot was like wtf? Thus, a B-side album.

Well after Machina I, I can't get into anything Smashing Pumpkins. I tried, I really did. But it just wasn't the same to me.

I think I enjoyed Billy's solo record more than Zeitgeist.

I listened to an old mix CD a friend of mine burned me, and it had a couple Smashing Pumpkins songs on it. I've got a semi-important question to ask: How can anyone listen to them for an extended period of time? He's got one of the most annoying voices I've ever heard in my life. He's more nasal than Shania Twain. He sounds like what I'd sound like if my nose was constantly stuffed up and I was pissed off about it all the time. I mean, is there something I'm missing? I'm really not trying to be a dick at all, I just want to know what's appealing about them.

At one time I thought Billy Corgan was a lyrical genius. I still do, in a way. I guess that's why I found them appealing. *shrugs*

Plus, they were a really good band back in the 90's when they were popular. With today's music, their appeal isn't really appreciated.

I worded my last sentence wrong. I meant to ask what's so appealing about Billy Corgan, not the Smashing Pumpkins. If it wasn't for his voice, I'd like them a lot. But his voice bothers me so much that I can't stand to listen to them for more than a couple songs at a time. I just don't understand how people can listen to that man's voice for extended periods of time without wanting to kill him.

That's how it was for me at first, with Billy's voice. When I first heard Tonight, Tonight, I literally laughed out loud at how bad the vocals were. Eventually I got into 1979, which features a softer vocal, and then went back to the other stuff and loved it. It takes some getting used to, but now I could not imagine anyone else singing for SP.

Also, to people who say that Smashing Pumkpins have lost their talent, try As Rome Burns and Song For A Son. If they can manage an album of that quality, I think it'll be good.

As a side note, I just wanted to know, am I the only one who doesnt get why Siamese Dream is so acclaimed?

One of the things that makes the new Pumpkin's so lame, to me, is Billy Corgan's lack of enthusiasm. His vocal delivery has absolutely no vigor anymore, and he looks like he's just going through the motions. It all comes across so half-assed.

Yeah, Billy's vocals are a huge problem. I think that it's the production, though. I've seen some recent live videos, and he sounds exactly the same as the 90's.

Anyway, FOL is here:

It seems that FOL stands for "Feel Our Love". This isn't BAD, but it's very meh. The production still sucks. They should get Flood back in the studio.

Edit: YouTube embedding doesnt seem to be working, so here's a link: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=mHyqMdBGoas

You can also download the song here: http://download.hyundaigenesis.com/RegistrationPage.aspx?downloadfilename=billy.mp3.

You can apparently register with fake info, it doesn't matter.

Just saw the commercial.

That was pointless to write a song for.

This is why I love Panic at the Disco's version of Tonight, Tonight more than the original by so much.

You could probably ask what's so appealing about Placebo or The White Stripes with Molko's and White's voices.
I grew up with The Smashing Pumpkns and I'm into those sort of voices.
Yes, sometimes it gets a bit too much but I don't complain, as with anything you put on repeat.
Not all Smashing Pumpkins songs are sung by Billy, James and D'arcy do sing some as well.
