The god in the pledge IS the christian god. Is was put in by christians. I highly doubt they're talking about mohammed or buddha.
The Prophet Mohammed is no God. And those that follow the Islamic faith do not worship him.

same here. which is why i just do not say the pledge. i was not born with these opinions, and when i was in kindergarten, i said the pledge and didn't think twice about waht i was saying. but now that things are different and i do not agree with what is going on as a result of this great country, i do not say the pledge. i do not have a vendetta against god or anything like that, by all means, say the under god if you want to.

no matter what happens, there will always be someone that is not happy with the results. that is why it is called a controversy.
i couldnt agree more.

The thing that pisses me off is how kids are taught the pledge in kindergarten and such. I know I'll want my kids to grow up athiest, like me. I can't bother to teach them any sort of religion when my beliefs are that religion is a crock. So my kid will go off to school and say the pledge with those 2 words. The teachers won't tell him that he doesn't have to say it, they'll just tell the kids to stand up and say it and they will regardless of their beliefs. The kindergadners don't understand their 1st amendment right to not say it, so they'll say it because the teacher told them to. So while I'm trying to raise my children as good little athiests, they go off to school and keep using the word "god" in a pro-religion manner.

But there still are other religions that believe in different gods, such as Buddhism. Maybe Islam was a bad example, but there are other religions who dont pray to the same god as the Christians do

You know what you need? A referendum. We did it for Quebec when they wanted to seperate from Canada and it was something like 51% -49% in favor of the non-seperatists. That was close.

If they would reverse the situation, so it'd be "all the atheists don't say 'under god', but they pause so the religious types can say it", I'd like to see how that would go for a year, maybe.

Atheists aren't the only ones who want "under god" taken out of the pledge, buddy. Don't single out one belief, or disbelief as someone stated.

I'm an atheist, and personally, I don't give a #### if they take "under god" out, leave it in, or ban the pledge entirely. I won't be saying the pledge no matter what. For one, I'm not an extremely patriotic person. Actually, I'm not at all. The united states sucks. Plain and simple. And second, I'm not going to say something, and go against my...disbeliefs...for a teacher, for a student, peer, no one. Two of my friends we're suspended in 8th grade for not saying the pledge. That's stupid. If it we're me at the time, I would have told the teacher to fvck off, and shake the hand of the principal and tell him thanks for the break from that hell hole.

So yeah, whatever they wanna do with it is fine. I know what I do with it, I shove it up my ass, that's what I do with it. :)

Shouldn't you shove it up someone else? Less pain that way.

glad to see we finally agree on something, todd. haha j/k.

i do not have kids, but i know what you are talking about. my speech and debate teacher last year said that we HAD to say the pledge, and if we didn't, we got detentions. so we had to say it, and even though it is your right to not say it if you do not want to, we were punished for our beliefs.
