I prefer him to sing the verses (Not rapping though) and Chester singing the chorus. Something like ''Burning In The Skies''.
I'd like to hear a switch in roles between Mike and Chester someday. Chester on the verse and mike singing the chorus. Mike's voice is very haunting-- It's a wonderful balance to Chester's melodic pleas.
This. Otherwise it gets predictable and boring. Maybe even have Chester sing the first verse and chorus, and have Mike sing the second verse and chorus. You know, something unpredictable.
A Thousand Suns The Requiem [Mike sings] Burning In The Skies [Mike sings + Chester sings] When They Come For Me [Mike raps + Chester sings] Robot Boy [Mike sings + Chester sings] Jornada Del Muerto [Mike sings + Chester sings] Waiting For The End [Mike sings + raps + Chester sings] Blackout [Mike sings + Chester sings] Wretches And Kings [Mike raps + Chester sings] Iridescent [Mike sings + Chester sings] The Catalyst [Mike sings + raps + Chester sings (+raps?)] The Messenger [Chester sings] So he sings in 6 of 9 songs plus The Requiem and Jornada Del Muerto. I think he sings a lot and I like the songs more, in which both use there voice. I don't have something against Mike singing, but I don't think he sings not much. I want to hear him rapping, too, so I think I'm okay with the amount he sings. Songs with Mike's singing and rapping are amazing, too. But please every time with Chester's singing. Sorry for my bad English.
^Just to add to that, he also has some backvocals on WTCFM, he sings the bridge on W&K and takes part in the gang vocals on The Messenger, although they're barely heard. He sings Fallout, so basically every vocal track on ATS consists of some of Mike's singing.
At the album release party in NYC in September 2010, I and a bunch of others started a "No Roads Left" chant to no avail.. Mike sounds great on the record, but, with absolutely no offense meant to him, I think he knows he won't sound nearly as good live. If you listen to live performances of Iridescent, for example, you can tell his voice can't quite keep up with the notes in a song like "No Roads Left." It's unfortunate, but at least he knows what he's good at. As for more singing on future songs/records, though, I'd love to hear it. I love No Roads, LTGYA, Iridescent, and even In Between, and I think his voice adds a different dimension to LP music. Definitely yes.
I agree. Also I may be in the minority but I'd really like to hear a Linkin Park album where Chester is more in the background (Blasphemy!) such as Mike during Minutes to Midnight. It'd be fun to hear a full hip-hop vs folk album or electronic folk album with Mike's haunting vocals and Chester doing some verses and background vocals and I'd love to see/hear him playing more instruments live. I know he can play the piano and guitar. And I think acoustic guitar should be used a little more often...
Completely agree. That would be awesome and show that they really want to do whatever the fuck they want.
If that ever happen...well, I'm sur I would enjoy the record, but it would basically be a Mike Shinoda record, not a Linkin Park record. Mike is already the brain of the band, rythm-guitarist of the band, keyboardist of the band, mc of the band, singer on some songs, and the producer, along with Rubin. If he become the lead singer as well then you have it: Mike + 5 other guest. Wouldn't be Linkin Park. Even if they named it Linkin Park. LP is 6 guys, not 1. "Guys, I made those 4 songs yesterday! Oh and Chester, by the way, can you sing "oooooh" on this one please?"
I think the key is to have him singing when it feels right. not on every track but just when the song calls for it. So I wouldn't say more, but I wouldn't say less. I think LP has figured out a nice balance between him and chester.
As long as there's a good balance I wouldn't mind Mike singing more . Oh who am I kidding I wouldn't even mind if Mike sung more instead of rapping >.> lol. Ok maybe not...
Mike should rap more, Chester is too amazing of a singer to have Mike taking his place, unless the mood matches once a record like In Beween.
You said you'd like it, so what's the problem? Linkin Park don't need to be stigmatized in order to be Linkin Park. Chester can do more than sing and in my opinion I wouldn't mind Chester taking the backseat overall. I don't believe that just because Chester doesn't sing as much on an album means he's any less part of the band and in fact I don't even think of him as lead vocalist. I think of him as co-vocalist and I want to hear new and interesting things from the band. Chester is the better vocalist but believe it or not, I believe Mike has a much more honest, sincere and haunting voice than Chester and can pull it off way better than him and that's the kind of album I'd like. An album that descends into darkness but with little screaming or screaming used very uniquely.
