That is not the kind of album that you make to save a career in this day and age. Shinoda couldn't say enough how bad a move it was from a business perspective.
and in my opinion it wasnt even that bad. ok , no #1 in America but in Germany it sold pretty good. back to topic. As long as they need to make a Pinkfloydish album
Exactly. I don't know what you're talking about MattLP but Shinoda actually thought it was a terrible idea from a business perspective to release a 'hard rock record' when most rock nowadays is more pop influenced or leaning towards a more commercial direction. Even the label was really uneasy about coming out with a record like this, but the commercial response and critical response took both parties by surprise. So definitely no deliberate career saving with this album.
Yeah thats right, so the next LP album should be straight up pop some teen dance trendy kind of music, so everyone will support it, the label, the fans, the outsiders, the ppl who havent heard of linkin park the youngsters of this generation. I'm sure it would top the charts and be awesome. And maybe they could bring in Taylor swift, nick jonas, and some other pop artist to collab on the album. Heck maybe even some bieber fever!!
Says who? Did we say that? Linkin Park don't seem to care about too much about commercial appeal these when it comes to their music, and I don't know anyone in this fan community who does either. The band's career doesn't need saving, and, if it did, an album like the one they made would not be the best way to go. "The Hunting Party" was, in fact, more likely to do damage by being less accessible than their past work ... and the band took the risk anyway. That's not opinion, that's just fact, so what you said is wrong, period. Shinoda reiterated that time and time again, so, whatever issue you have, you'd really have to take it up with him. As hardxcore fans, we don't have any issue with LP going against the grain. As an aside, the band were pessimistic about how the album might do in terms of sales and such, but, even so, it has done relatively well and the tours have been a success by all accounts. Despite being a less-accessible work, "The Hunting Party" hasn't irreparably hurt Linkin Park's career.
Didn't Mike actually say he wrote like a shitload of electro-pop shit for what was supposed to be the 6th album before scrapping it for HP? I'd actually say they were just about to become trendhoppers had they followed through with that. THP actually brought back some of the naysayers, despite poor sales. Infamously unfriendly Sputnik.com has THP ranked second behind HT. They're not "as big" as they were but if anything I'd say THP was a much needed reminder that they were at one time an very formidable rock act, even if they weren't 100% creative all of the time.
Yeah , agree here. Some of this naysayers i know also rate THP over Coldplays Ghost Storys and i think this has to mean something if they hated ATS and LT.
Eh, just means they like heavier music. Like when rolling stone gave MTM a great rating and every other LP album mediocre ratings, they just like that kind of sound more.
God damnit... So even though this link that I'm about to post isn't from a Linkin Park band member, or even about Linkin Park for that matter, this dude gets it. Even though it isnt Linkin Park related, it still brings up a good point about every bands fanbase. Its really sad and too bad that fans act like this. You Are My Favorite Band And I Hate You.
really great article. i am sure this is also how STP(W/CB) feels. so right. Without the internet and the freak speaking process people wouldnt be so ass hurt. This is how i feel.
