I don't know what the deal is in your guys' countries, but over here, statutory law says assisted suicide or 'mercy killings' like this still constitute murder. Plus given the circumstances of the case (i.e. cannibalism) it's very likely he'd be convicted of murder.

Though if he can be diagnosed with a 'recognised psychiatric illness' it's also quite likely he'd be given the partial defence of insanity, meaning he'd be detained in a mental institution until the State deems him fit for release into the public.

Me doing Law finally came in handy.

I don't think assisted suicide should be considered moral or be considered really wrong at all. If suicide is legal, helping someone do it should be too. However, the argument is always if the person has the correct mental faculties and such to make the decision.

If we can assume a person is in regular possession of their mental faculties and wishes to die, I think that should be fine. But it opens a scary possibility of forcing people into saying they wish to die so you can kill them without any problem.

So in principle I am for it but in practice things could get ugly.

I'm going to close this, just because the case is so outdated. Feel free to open a new thread about assisted suicide or whatever else you feel like discussing from this, though.
