BE is a horrible place to gauge STP fans. There's a lot of Scott Weiland blowhards over there that will never give Chester a chance regardless of how good he is.

A part of me would want to believe in a darker LP record, but...

    This!

Anyway, the whole interview was a good read. Great to see how Chester is motivated about doing both STP and LP, despite the big amount of work it requires.

There is no way LP will do a heavy metal album, Warner wouldn't give them creative license enough to do it. Fully expecting a dance album.

The interview was a good read, Chester seems to be just the spark that STP needed at this point in their career.

BE commenters already hate LP. Why bother?

Yay for more information on the album! They say it's different I'm going to at least trust that it's different from LT

When he said it was 'electro dance-y' I was like  and then he said 'metal' and I was like :bounce:

Death metal is not what I want from LP, but I'd definitely like it more than 'electro dance'.

Nah, I'll go into that fangirl mode when they announce the first single. :D And when it's out I'll love it no matter what it is. But what I'll think of it after a few months... That's the problem. Just like I couldn't breathe when ALTNC was played live, and now I think it's pretty boring.

    I'm not a metalhead, btw. :p

I'm trying to be in a mindset of not caring or expecting what the overall genre of the album might be. I really just hope it's good music.

...and then he mentioned "dubstep". Which is in my opinion the worst music imaginable.

As long as the electronic stuff is experimental like in ATS, I wouldn't mind it.
My suggestion is to still make an album that has a song or two dedicated to showing what each member can do.
    Like,
For mike it would be a song or two that shows off his rapping skill and musical skills
For Brad it would be a song or two that has some sick guitar solo he would never have done before
For Rob it would be a song or two that contains a huge drum solo or complicated drum patterns
For Joe it would be a song or two that contains a lot of electronica and stuff like that.
    etc etc.

THAT would be the best album ever. Just saying.

Coming back to the STP stuff (and probably related to my earlier post) I'd like to ask, how thick does one have to be to still attempt justifying that Scott should still be in STP, when the rest of the bandmembers aren't even allowed to have his phone number? That's twisted.

I also find it very distasteful that some extremists label the DeLeos and Kretz as some sort of publicity whores and how they want to "use Scott to promote themselves". I mean, in every interview they're been asked the same shit over and over again (so they're certainly NOT the ones who bring up the subject), and in every single time you can see their discomfort on assessing the issue. They're being open with it now but I can safely bet that if it was their choice, they wouldn't talk about it at all.

That article was very interesting, although I haven't listened to STP at all and have no idea what kind of music they make.

 I'm trying not to care, too. As long as it's good, I don't care whether it's dance-y electro or death metal. The latter would be quite weird, though, but I think I'd get used to it. :D

I love Chester's words: "In Linkin Park, we don't give a shit what we're doing, as long as it makes our ears perk up!"

Hey people, first time in the forums, but a huge fan of LPA (and obviously LP) so I've been checking this page for years now.

Well, I don't like electronic-y stuff* I do enjoy them experimenting and keeping the band alive by doing things they wouldn't usually do. The only thing is that I feel their dubstep emc or whatever genre they're going with (I don't know the names of those lol) shouldn't be that important in this album or the next, I wish they could go and do something else for the sake of experimenting. If the objective with LP is to experiment, then I feel they should also diverge from those disco beats at some point in the future. I've enjoyed all of their stuff since HT. But I wouldn't be as excited if they go full ALTNC on the album.

Not my intention to feel like crying over that haha I still listen to whatever they create and usually it grows in me.

Reanimation rocked! but it's not how electronic music is nowadays. Those remixes were awesome.

Regardless of whether or not the heavy stuff makes the album, I just don't understand why the band is gravitating towards that stuff. They're all approaching 40 years old...they're going to have to calm down a little bit eventually . Also, playing more heavy stuff live is going to continue to ruin Chester's voice.

It's not necessarily the heavy stuff that's wrecking Chester's voice. The screaming technique he uses puts very little strain on the vocal cords. He's been pushing his singing voice MUCH higher the last couple albums though. Hybrid Theory-era Chester wouldn't have even attempted songs like New Divide, The Messenger, In My Remains, or I'll Be Gone. Remember how he used to say Crawling was the hardest song for him to sing? The highest note in that song is an A. There are B's and C's all over the last couple albums.

Nah... That's a gigantic cliché you're telling here. Sorry, but I don't see how growing up would be a synonym of going more calm (in the music world, obviously). A good example of this is Ministry, which began their career as a synthpop act and changed their style in favor of industrial metal. They became heavier and heavier while growing older. Their lead singer is now 55, and still rocking the fuck out. "Heavy for the youngst, mellow for the old", that's a stereotyp, as much as...I don't know, "Hip hop for the gangsta, Classical for the intellectuals!'. If they feel like it, I think older people keep the right to kick people in the face with their music ;)

Both Mike and Chester have already said that it would be different from LT.

I feel like ATS kinda did that. Mike had rapping, Blackout was Hahn (as well as all the radiance live), Burning in the skies kinda had a guitar solo. I'm not drum savvy though lol. The bridge of The Catalyst kinda had everyone.

Chester's description of what happens when he goes into the studio:

    Lots of dance-y stuff,
    Acoustic folk influenced,
Death metal (a poor description that was also used for Victimized)
    A bit of everything

Sounds like the same things they said about LT.
