I'm pretty sure the quiet strings in the verses are exactly the same chords though.

I'm not bothered by it though, they're both completely different songs.

    Bass wise, no.

New Divide's verse (Tuning, Db Ab Db Gb (with overdrive)):

    2nd Verse
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------2~--------------
-4~--------------7~--------------2~------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------2~--------------
-4~--------------7~--------------2~------------------------------

-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------2~--------------
-4~--------------7~--------------2~------------------------------

    Pre-Chorus
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------2~------------------------------
-0~--------------------------------------------------------------

    ====

Different than What I've Done. Similar sound sure but the tuning is lower and the frets are different. They likely sound similar due to the use the ringing notes in the verses.

By the way, those tabs are courtesy of Astat. We're going to upload the bass tabs shortly.

Both New Divide and What I've Done both use incredibly cliche/overused chord progressions, hence why they sound so familiar.

Don't get me wrong, I like both songs (What I've done moreso), but these chord progressions can be seen in millions of songs.

    My thoughts on New Divide:
It's a good song. Not great, but good. I can tell they still have lots of great songs in them, but I think the fact that they had to write this song to fit a specific theme/mood crippled them a little bit.

At least the song wasn't a let down.

I really do love the link/relation New Divide has to Linkin Park's prior albums. It kind of has that What I've Done vibe but yet contains elements of electronica, which was much more distinctive on Reanimation and Meteora. Instrumentally, this is beautiful music with a nice verse, catchy chorus and the entire song is beautifully sung by Chester. Mike also does great in the background.

The little electronic breakdown in the middle really adds to the appeal and overall quality of the song. And lyrics wise, possibly Linkin Park's absolute best written work.

    Awesome song.

It reminds me of Breaking the Habit more than What I've Done. Its somewhat of a mixture of those two I think. Or like if What I've Done had have been made during the Meteora era.
Overall, a very good song. Could do with a little more substance though. The synths are cool.

I wish they would have extended the area between after the first chorus and before the second verse.

That's not surprising considering there are many LP fans still around.

While I am proud for the boys, I'd wait till next week for a true indicator.

When his voice comes in the first time the electronic sound to it worried me. I thought the whole song would have that filter on it and I'd hate it but it didn't so thats good.

I think its pretty generic sounding but not bad at all. I felt the chorus got really intense but didn't follow through. I was expecting a scream and it never came.

Like I said, not bad at all and better then a lot of stuff, but its meeting me right now like Leave Out All The Rest did when it was first released, which wasn't great but eventually warmed up to me.

Mike ... is a damn genius. A musical.. hip-hop with rock root sampler like Timbaland... just the rock version. The man has define making samples out of his guitarist. And since they are genuine they can be played live. Vs Hybrid theory that was more primitive and depended alot more on "Joe" to do the beats.

For example how papercut / points of authority / in the end / crawling / By Myself / Runaway / pushing me away
These all heavily depended on some beat.. and joe played most of them. (these are some of my favorite linkin park songs in my opinion). Now the ones that don't depend so much on beats are..

One Step Closer (hence why it's in Rock Band 2 and In The End isn't)
    A Place for my head
    Forgotten

These numbers were more instrument based and definitely could be done live and added with effects.

When Meteora came around.. we had more beat driven songs! (Faint anyone?)

But everyone complained (in the official forums from what I know) that Meteora was too identical to Hybrid Theory.

And this led to Minutes to Midnight. Now the reason I didn't like Minutes to Midnight was because.. the "fire" or anger was gone.. Mike output most of his energy on "The Rising Tied" around the time and barely of the old "rapping" Mike was back. He was gone. It was Chester taking the stage most of the part. BUT I have to admit the boys really developed this time on the more instrument driven songs.. but the "linkin park fire" now was very primitive... but now a year or so has gone by.. and the "concept" that was born from Reanimation.. which then translated to Breaking the Habit.. is now being more polished.

Linkin Park now sounds more like a band.. but now also sounds.. like the band Linkin Park. Retaining it's attributes. So ladies and gentleman I expect this upcoming album to be straight fire... fire so good that it should match up to the legend that made us all fans of this band (Hybrid Theory).

Now how did this all come about? Well New Divide... the beat in the intro.. can definitely done with a guitar .. it's instruments.. but Mike figure out the way to sample it perfectly with his "signature" making of Rock like (Timbaland) beats samples.. just with a real instrument.
Anyone remember the Timbaland intro did for Bleed it out. And I gotta give it to Timbaland.. (I know I am sounding like a fan of his shit) but he does alot of good R&B instrumentals. Starting with Aaliyah - Are You That Somebody..so when he did the treatment for Linkin Park. Bleed It Out sounded more crazier than ever lol)

Somewhere I belong (guitar loop backwards)
Lying From You (sample, I think this was a wheel peeling out sampled backwards)
Faint (sampled too forgot if it was the wheel also)

And these were popular songs. Mike..began with a piano, and now has worked his way to a guitar. IT's amazing. No wonder he's been fiddling with a real Guitar in the live shows and in the vids I keep seeing. I guess.. (ironically I been playing guitar too since this whole time) funny. He's making sense to me.

(smells air) it's good to be a Linkin Park fan. I knew the boys would come back..grrr.
(my only fear.. is Mike.. still holding out and not believing that rap and rock can co-exist since we all kinda shitted on the "Theory" when we dogged the crap out of Reanimation)

According to Talinda's Twitter a few days ago, "in two weeks."
According to Mike's blog a few days ago, "around when the song comes out."

It shouldn't be too long. I'd look for more info on it later this week. They just shot the video a few days ago so they're probably not done editing it yet.
