Catcher in the rye is a Great book, one of my favorite mandatory book i had to read.

Trust me, the story is better than the description. :) It's a very book that sets in Holdens perspective. Just remember he's probably in a mental-hospital telling a story and it all flows well.

Pfft.Catcher in the Rye. The list would be bigger for BNW if Chris just opened his mouth in this thread like he did in random thoughts 20. Anyway, I'm out for Catcher in the Rye. I still maintain BNW and its themes are more spiffiful than Catcher in the Rye (if a majority of the readers have the book, doesn't it defeat the whole vibe to go out and get it? ... laziness..)

The reason why I'm trying to push Brave New World is because it is a legendary book that was written in 1932 and predicted the future. Huxley based his ideas after seeing what humanity could do to each other in WW1 and at that time Hitler rose to power. If it was in his times, we would be living in the AF years (After Ford; after Henry Ford).

Can't we just have two books this year to read?

If this is successful, then we'll definetly keep doing them. So we may end up reading BNW in the future. :)

However, seeing as how the last one was a total failure, my goal for this is just to get people reading (and fininishing) the book. So, for better or for worse, majority has to rule on this one.

How about this, then: we can start February 1st, and stretch the book out for a month's time. If another title becomes more popular between now and then, we'll do that one.

Just curious Sarah, but have you already read it?

I've already read both books, if that's what you're asking Omar.

But it's been a few years since I read Brave New World so I'm sketchy on the full details. And damn, I was searching for my copy of Brave New World today and looks like I've lost it.

Anyone read To Kill A Mockingbird? Now that's a kickass book. Won't be pushing it this year though.

Well then, unless there are any more suggestions (and there's still time), Catcher in the Rye it is. We'll start Feb. 1st, just to give people time to get it.

I've read The Catcher in The Rye quickly in one day to see if I would like it. And turns out, I loved it. But I'll read it again more slowly next time
