Eric Whitacre's material is different, but I wouldn't call it pretentious, or him pretentious. I follow him on Facebook, and he seems pretty fucking awesome.

He's currently finishing writing an A Capella arrangement of NIN's Hurt that he's debuting in London in a week. Since he's the grand king of dissonance, I really can't wait to hear it!

Hahaha, hmmm, you bring an interesting point sir. The difference is, Shinedown actually tries. With that Red song, all they did was play lazy power chords with a shitty keyboard on top. It was awful.
