IMO you guys are getting WAY . I mean the topic (since I started it) is basically what do you think as rap as a WHOLE. I know people who say ALL rap isn't 'real' music. Not just mainstream, underground, hip-hop. Or whatever. The whole genre. Debated mainstream rap is useless because there's too many arguments for and against mainstream music and you people will just argue. So is rap (as a whole) real music? A lot of people say yes. Some people I know say no. "They're just talking. Anyone can do that." To me writing a song like Aerosmith's "Dream On" can be just as hard as writing a good lyrical song with no vocal melody like Eminem's "Stan". But some people would beat me down for saying that.
I don't care if this is off topic, but not ALL mainstream rap is bad. I mean, you have rappers like Kayne West, Nas, Eminem, Ice Cube & Twista. I think the mainstream is turning around. Slowly? yeah. But, IMO, it's starting to get better. That goes for all genres of music.
I agree with that. Every genre has had it's time period where it's been flooded with copy cats and crappy music. AND I CAN'T BELIEVE OUTKAST HASN'T BEEN MENTIONED!!! Their CD(s) Speakerboxxx/Love Below give new hope to rap/hip hop. Disagree with that and I'll have to kill you.
I guess Outkast is okay. Their not my cup of tea, but they're okay. Sleepy Brown (?) is awesome though.
There's the difference that other people argue. If they write a GOOD lyrical rap, I have no problem with them, even if they are 'just talking.' But a lot of rappers' lyrics cover topics that are completely irrelevant and pointless. They are the "musicians" I can't stand.
[/b][/quote] Sorry but I have to beat you down for that For "Dream On": -A catchy chorus (with different drums/bass/guitars/vocal melodies) - great acoustic stuff, there's an actual DEVELOPMENT of the song. doing that well is extremely difficult. You don't see any musical development in rap songs, thats my biggest gripe. - There are 4 different parts for 5 mins plus that are really diverse For Eminem: - Rhythm and lyrics for verse and chorus (i know its hard to do, but thats more poetry than music) - he gets in someone else to do the actual SINGING....other than a bassline and a beat there is really no musical stuff to it...its just looped. Lyrically its genius, but musically its boring as hell. Thats my interpretation of it....
yeah i agree with you. lets just hope it will get back up. dont worry j-flex i didnt think you were offensive at all
