I still don't understand why we don't have an "E" for us.

 

What did you re-sit?

 

I resat my ICT exam and one of my history exams. Hopefully they won't be U's this time round XD

 

The only time I've seen an E was for Excellent, which they only used in elementary/middle school to grade our behavior and work ethic rather than our academic standing.

It went like this:

E = Excellent
S = Satisfactory
N = Needs Improvement
U = Unsatisfactory

Or the N and U were switched. I don't remember for sure.

 

Hehe. Fair enough like.

I resat far too many exams

 

What else did you have to resit?

 

I know, right? We just skip right to F. I remember when I actually attended school, I asked one of my teachers why that was, and they just looked at me and called me a smartass. And now, my online instructors, they don't even know why. I'm like, damn, you guys have degrees allowing you to teach us, and you don't even know why the grading system is the way it is?

 

They're taught to teach and abide the system, not understand it.

 

I did like, 2 computing ones, general studies ones, 2 maths ones and one for tech.


Then had a maths and computing exam that we'd not done before.


It sucked

 

The problem is, the exam board sets out the grade boundaries and then don't give a reason why. It's nothing to do with the teachers. A lot of the teachers in my school don't have a clue about 'why' either

@Dave: D: That does indeed suck. Wow, and I was pissed about doing only two. You got any more to retake again in the summer or not? I'm not retaking again, no matter what grades I get tomorrow O_O

 

I'm not really sure. I'm thinking about doing one of my tech ones again 'cause I did really really badly in it first time round and it can only be resat in the summer. Other than that I'm not sure. Probably resit the 2 ones I did for the first time in Jan.

That's why I hate testing. The system is totally not conducive to a learning environment. We're taught a variety of subjects over the course of 3/4 of the year, yet we have to recall all the information in a 1 hour period? The pressure and tension that comes from testing is totally unneeded. And of course, there are ways of cheating the system.

Unfortunately, when testing knowledge of a subject matter, you have to take into account a) reliability and b) efficiency. That's why multiple choice exams are made. It's the fastest test that can be given to masses and the easiest to grade. If we were to go to a system devoted to reliability (i.e. an untimed oratory examination with a teacher, such as asking 5 questions about the whole course that gauges actual knowledge of the course), it would take too much time and wouldn't work with large classes (in this case, even 20 kids would be very time consuming).

The way testing is right now is about 90% for efficiency, speed, and ease of use, which is all the human race seems to care for anyways.

But I have quite a few albums to sift through while I work, so it's all good, as long as I dont swallow, talk, or move my tongue in any way...
