To be honest I consider H! Vltg3 to be the worst track of the album, it's very repetitive and loses all the charm of the original. But then I also didn't know that "Lamont Dozier" sample.
H! Vltg3 is bad, but not the worse. Maybe Stef is the worst track, or Kyur4 Th Ich... BTW, Ntr/Mssion is the BEST INTERLUDE EVER!
IMO, it has its own charm. It was the first version of the song I ever heard, personally, so I can deal with it just fine. Plus, Pharoahe makes one of the album's (many) best guest spots. Would've been cool to hear some more Shinoda x Dilated Peoples collaborations - I guess The Visionaries track is kind of close, though
I agree. It is what it is, but it's easy to look at it as a regular studio album for me because not only did they create new instrumentals for every track, but also new vocals for most of them. Plus they included other songs thay weren't on Hybrid Theory. I hold it very high. It's right under A Thousand Suns for me. Both of those push the boundaries and Reanimation is just ahead of its time. P5hng Me A*wy is my favorite.
Well, it's obviously better than Stef. I didn't take the interludes into account. But I just find it a bit boring. Maybe it's just because I don't really like songs whose instrumental consists of just one sample repeated over and over again. I know this is a common technique in Hip-Hop, but that doesn't change that I still find it boring, mostly. I've always liked that Linkin Park didn't really do this often, even in their more rap-centric songs (even Nobody's Listening, which is a good example of LP using this sampling-technique, is still offering more variation than H! Vltg3). But I like the original song by Lamont Dozier, now that I know it. -- Regarding Reanimation in general: I also think it somehow is an "early incarnation" of ATS, it definitely belongs to my favorite albums by LP.
It totally is! I think of "A Thousand Suns" as the result of Linkin Park doing something on par with "Reanimation"... but on their own this time, because they'd evolved to the point where they were up to it.
You guys ever see this from mid-last year? I missed it entirely, I think. I remember the AMA itself, IIRC, but not this video/podcast thing specifically
Well said! Now that I think of it, I think you are right with your interpretation. Also, the immersive soundscapes, interludes and long intros in some songs remind me of ATS quite a bit. And these are exactly the things I like.
I always thought of this! The interludes in the middle of the album and the electronic sounds reminds me a lot of ATS.
